The Female Multi-Venous Access Arm (375-51001) is a full- size lifelike arm, which realistically simulates that of a female patient. It is specifically designed for training professionals in the practice of venipuncture.

As a result of quality manufacturing and ease of replacing individual parts, this trainer should provide many years of training when reasonable care and maintenance is practiced.

Laerdal Recommends:

Catheter – Size 20-gauge

When using a catheter, lubricate with silicone spray for easier insertion.

Items Included:

(1) Female Multi-Venous Access Arm (1) Lubricant Kit

(1) Laerdal Global Warranty Booklet (1) Directions for Use

Skill Taught:

• Venipuncture

Laerdal Recommends:

Use nothing larger than a 20- gauge catheter. This will extend life of IV Arm Skin.

Lubricate catheter with silicone spray for easier insertion.

Multiple Venipuncture sites:

1. Dorsal Veins of Hand (3) 2. Cephalic Vein

3. Median Vein 4. Basilic Vein 5. Antecubital

Instructions for Use:

1. Attach IV Bag to IV tubing.

2. Attach IV tubing to either latex vein.

3. Allow fluid to flow through arm and out other vein.

4. Clamp off flow of water.

The arm is now ready to practice venipuncture.

Replacing Skin and Veins:

When excessive leaking occurs at the puncture sites, either a new multi-vein system or skin should be installed to reduce loss of fluid. The ideal work area when replacing veins and skin is at a sink.

1. Remove the skin:

a. If replacing the skin and the veins, cut the skin off.

This can be done with a sharp knife or scalpel. (See Fig. 1) When finished, discard the skin.

b. If replacing only the veins, lubricate the inside of the skin with liquid detergent. Begin at the top of the arm and roll the skin down and off of the arm and hand. The thumb will detach with the skin. NOTE: If reusing the skin after replacing the tubing, be sure the thumb insert is in place before continuing. A new skin has the thumb already inserted.

2. Replacing Veins:

a. Lubricate inside of skin with liquid detergent.

b. Begin at top of arm and roll skin down and of arm and hand.

Thumb will detach with skin. (See Fig. 1)

c. Remove tubing from track in mandrel. Tack glue may need to be cut away to allow removal.

d. Rinse and dry vein grooves well and swab with alcohol. Be sure to remove any excess glue.

e. Place new veins along grooves, spot gluing as needed.

(See Fig. 2)

f. Rinse inside of arm skin with soap and water.

g. Lather arm mandrel with liquid soap.

h. Slide arm skin over mandrel.

i. Work mandrel up into skin's fingers. (See Fig. 3) j. Rinse off excess soap and dry.

Care and Maintenance:

1. Clean with mild soap and water; do not submerse manikin or parts in cleaning fluids or water.

2. Use only on clean surface. Avoid felt tipped markers, ink pens, acetone, iodine or other staining products and avoid placing the manikin on newsprint or inked lines of any kind.

3. To ensure longevity, each manikin and module should be cleaned after each training session and a general

inspection should be conducted regularly.

4. Modules and all other parts should be drained and air- dried thoroughly before storage and disinfected when needed. After use of injection pads (use water only), accumulated water should be squeezed out. Do not store wet foam pads in the skin. To prevent mildew or mold, pads can be soaked in a mild solution of

disinfectant and water or bleach and water. Squeeze excess solution from pads, allow them to dry, then store or reinsert in manikin.

5. Articulating parts will benefit from a light application of talcum powder prior to training sessions.

6. Store properly between teaching sessions.
