O Alabama Gospel Choir é formado por 30 artistas que conseguem traduzir a história do Gospel numa viagem única às raízes desta música que combina a parte mais visceral com a essência mais espiritual. O Gospel conta cada vez com mais seguidores e está a tornar-se numa música tão Natalícia como as valsas de Strauss. A razão é o sentimento e o fervor, pois trata-se de uma música poderosa e expressiva, em que o importante é o canto. O coro, graças ao seu estilo único e pessoal, obteve excelentes críticas e ganhou numerosos festivais, aumentando a sua popularidade, o que o converteu num dos melhores representantes do Gospel americano.

Agora, regressam a Portugal com uma actuação renovada e fresca que transmitirá ao público a alma da música Gospel.

The Alabama Gospel Choir comprises 30 artists who have succeeded in translating the history of Gospel into a unique journey to the roots of this music, which combines the visceral with the essence of what is most spiritual. Gospel music is winning over more and more fans and it is becoming as much the music of Christmas as the waltzes of Strauss. The reason for this is the music’s depth of feeling and fervour, because in this powerful, expressive music it is the singing that counts. Thanks to its unique, personal style, the choir has performed to great critical acclaim and won numerous festivals, thereby increasing its popularity and becoming one of the best representatives of American Gospel. Now they are returning to Portugal with a fresh, new show which will convey the soul of Gospel music to the audience.

New Year’s Concert

On 1st January, Olhão Municipal Auditorium will be staging the New Year’s Concert by the Orquestra do Algarve, with a programme featuring works by some of the great composers.

No dia 1 de Janeiro, o Auditório Municipal de Olhão recebe o Concerto de Ano Novo, pela Orquestra do Algarve, com um programa onde se destacam obras de grandes compositores.

José Mário Branco, a solo // solo

No Teatro das Figuras, José Mário Branco fará aquilo que sempre fez nos seus álbuns e espectáculos: uma referência – como alguém escreveu, sempre autobiográfica - ao estado em que, no seu sentir, se encontra a sociedade de que faz parte. Tomando como base o reportório do seu álbum Resistir É Vencer, o facto de se apresentar a solo irá reforçar o pendor introspectivo que sempre existe quando nos fala do mundo e da vida. José Mário Branco é um artista do seu tempo e da sua comunidade.

E este tempo é de introspecção e de eterna busca, mas também de denúncia e de acção – um cunho também manifestamente impresso nas canções mais emblemáticas de sempre deste nosso “cantautor” que atravessa gerações.

At the Figuras Theatre, José Mário Branco will be doing what he has always done on his albums and at his concerts: making reference – always autobiographically, as someone once wrote – to the state, in his view, in which the society he is part of finds itself. The concert is based on the repertoire of his album “Resistir É Vencer”

(Resisting is winning), and the fact that he is performing solo will strengthen the introspective slant which is always there when he speaks to us about the world and life. José Mário Branco is an artist of his time and his community. And this is the time for introspection and endless searching, but also for protest and action – something clearly stamped on the most iconic numbers of all time by this singer-songwriter of ours, who bridges generations.

Tendo como cabeça de cartaz o popular actor Octávio Matos, secundado pelo bem conhecido actor igor Sampaio e por isabel Damatta (que também teve a seu cargo a encenação), esta peça retrata a confusão vivida em casa de um casal, na noite em que os mesmos comemoram 15 anos de casados.

quando estava previsto irem jantar fora com o padrinho de casamento de ambos, uma alteração de última hora faz com que o jantar acabe por se realizar em casa, alteração essa que em muito prejudica o plano de assalto que a empregada doméstica havia planeado para essa noite, em conjunto com o seu irmão e com o seu namorado.

with the popular actor Octávio Matos topping the bill, backed up by the well-known actor igor Sampaio and isabel Damatta (who was also responsible for directing), this play depicts the confusion experienced in the home of a couple on the night of their 15th wedding anniversary. when they had been planning to go out for dinner with one of the witnesses to their wedding, a last minute change means that the dinner takes place at home, which jeopardises the burglary which the maid had been planning for the same evening, along with her brother and her boyfriend.

The exhibition “henry, the infante who changed the world” aims to familiarise people with the different sides of his complex and multifaceted character, as well as his relationship with the Algarve and particularly with the region around Sagres and Raposeira. “On the Route of the infante”

is a combined visitor’s ticket that allows you to find out about the Prince in Guadalupe, the place where he prayed, and enjoy the magic of the Promontorium Sacrum, on a visit to “my town” as the Prince used to call the Sagres Fortress.

A exposição “henrique, o infante que mudou o Mundo” pretende dar a conhecer as várias facetas do seu carácter complexo e multifacetado, bem como a sua relação com o Algarve e particularmente com a região de Sagres e Raposeira. “Na Rota do infante” é um bilhete conjunto de visita que permite conhecer o infante em Guadalupe, no seu local de oração, e encantar-se com a magia do Promontório Sacrum, na visita à “minha vila” como o infante chamou à Fortaleza de Sagres.

The group Sunqur Sa’di Ensemble will be giving a performance of traditional music and dance from Egypt. “Tanoura Dance”: its origins are closely connected with the sufi dance Mawlawi, which, through its whirling, is linked to heaven and to spirituality. interminable rotations, with the multicoloured costumes of the dancers, create the illusion of a human kaleidoscope. This dance can be seen mainly during the “Mooled”, festivities that take place in the city of islamic Cairo, and recently at cultural events all over the world. “Saidi Dance” originated in upper Egypt and represents the fight between men using their tahtib (sticks).

it is a very energetic dance which follows the rhythms of the tabla and the mizmar with its jumps. “Nubian Dance”: Nubia, in southern Egypt and part of Sudan, is a very distinctive region and its dance and music are very infectious, with lively rhythms and their delicate, fluid movements.

O grupo Sunqur Sa`di Ensemble apresenta um espectáculo de músicas e danças tradicionais do Egipto: “Tanoura Dança”: a sua origem está intimamente relacionada com a dança sufí Mawlawi, que através dos seus giros conecta-se com o céu e com a espiritualidade. Voltas intermináveis, com um vestido multicolor do bailarino, criam a ilusão de um caleidoscópio humano. Esta dança pode ser observada sobretudo durante a Mooled, festividades que têm lugar na cidade do Cairo islâmico, e ultimamente em todo o mundo, em eventos culturais. “Dança Saidi”: tem a sua origem no alto Egipto e representa a luta dos homens com o seu tahtib (bastão).

É uma dança muito energética, que com os seus saltos segue o ritmo do tabal e do mizmar. “Dança Núbia”: a Núbia, no sul do Egipto e parte do Sudão, é uma região onde a dança e a música são muito contagiantes com ritmos animados e movimentos delicados e fluídos.

O famoso desfile de carros alegóricos, com os usuais cabeçudos, grupos de samba, e muita música, é uma festa de todos para todos. As brincadeiras de sempre e muita animação vão encher as ruas de Loulé!

The Algarve has a wealth of places with strong carnival traditions. Loulé is no exception and, with one of the oldest and best known parades in the country, the city is filled with colour and merrymaking. The famous procession of floats with the usual giant puppets, samba groups and lots of music is a festival by everyone for everyone. The usual pranks and lots of entertainment will be filling the streets of Loulé!
