This study was used qualitative method. This method emphasizes actual situation, focus on interpretation and meaning, respondents understanding, and can use variety of data acquisition techniques [23]. Qualitative research involves subjective assessment of attitudes, opinions and behaviour [24]. This study aims to explore data about effects on physical conditions and socio-economic which determine the success of resettlement. To achieve the main objective, data needed is conformity of physical condition of new home by participants and impact of resettlement in socio-economic aspects. One type of qualitative research is retrospective study. Retrospective study focuses on biographies of participants or asking participants to recall events that have passed [25]. In this study, participants were asked to compare his condition before and after resettlement both in terms of house physical condition as well as socio-economic mobility.

Assessing the atmospheric oscillations effects on the biology of the bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) and its possible linkage with global warming

Assessing the atmospheric oscillations effects on the biology of the bullet tuna (Auxis rochei) and its possible linkage with global warming

LWR constitute a powerful tool to establish biological assessment and management policies. It basically consists on fitting the length against the weight observed for a certain individual, obtaining a statistical fitting expression for the whole set of individuals. This relationship provides information about the status of the stocks, lifespan, mortality, or growth rates, and permits asses about the temporal trend of the stock. From the equation obtained for a set of specimens, several biological implications can be deduced; one of the most relevant is growth. According to Froese (2006) LWR parameter b represents the type of growth followed by a determinate species. In concordance with this, b=3 represents an isometric growth (meaning that the animal growths equally in the three spatial dimensions) while a value for parameter “b” different than 3 represents an alometric growth. This kind of growth can be either positive alometric growth for those values of “b” larger than 3 (the specimens increases its thickness rather than the length), or negative alometric growth for “b” smaller than 3 (individuals growth elongated). According to this, presenting the LWR for this species will constitute an important improvement for the assessment and management of their stocks, since parameters obtained from these relationships provide useful information about biological dynamics. Moreover, the LWR in fish from a specific geographic region during a specific season could be useful to estimate their physical condition. The main aim of present paper is to provide the LWR for the bullet tuna collected along the Spanish Mediterranean Sea.

Estimation of Material Loss due to Chemical Weathering of Some Rocks in Sri Lanka

Estimation of Material Loss due to Chemical Weathering of Some Rocks in Sri Lanka

The river sedimentation may be high in tropical countries because rock weathering is most intense in the humid tropical region. Sri lanka is a country in the tropical region with high humidity. Therefore study on the rock weathering, river sedimentation and landscape reduction in Sri lanka may provide useful information to the scientists and engineers in the country. There are very few publications available on the study of rock weathering in Sri lanka (Vitanage etal., 1983; Jayawardena and Izawa, 1994 a&b; Jayawardena, 2000 and 2003). It is the continuation of the same research which highlight the physical condition of rocks during chemical weathering (Jayawardena and Izawa, 1994a&b; Jayawardena, 2000 and 2003). The aim of this study is to find out the weight loss of some major parent rocks with the increase of chemical weathering in Sri lanka.

MENTAL HEALTH AND THE CRISIS: EVIDENCE FROM SHARE

MENTAL HEALTH AND THE CRISIS: EVIDENCE FROM SHARE

limitation comes from the collected data. The SHARE is a database designed to study ageing and socioeconomic features of the elder population in Europe and only provides data for respondents over 50 years of age. Even though it could make more sense to study the most vulnerable groups, this sample is not taken to be representative of the population. Our assumption here is that a significant part of the effect of the crisis is felt through the cuts on public spending – but this may not be true when studying a younger, less dependable sample. Moreover, even though controls for physical condition were included, it is important to note that this is a sample with presumable poor physical health, a strong influence on overall mental outcomes. This must be taken into consideration for policy implications in terms of health care spending.

Perceptions of people with osteogenesis imperfecta about the interventions of the occupational therapy and its possibilities of care

Perceptions of people with osteogenesis imperfecta about the interventions of the occupational therapy and its possibilities of care

The participant Lírio reported believing that this professional could help improve the lives of many people and also act in activities that improve the physical condition of those who need it. In Rosa´s reports, the OT’s representation emerged as a very important and successful work, but in her interview, she showed no distinction between the OT professional and the psychologist (all other participants also portrayed this perception). Frésia said that she always believed OT was aimed at intellectual problems. One of the hypotheses about this devolution of participants may refer to the term “therapy” used in both areas of knowledge. On the other hand, the statements of the participants that focus on the physical and mental areas refer to concepts related to the genesis of the profession, in which two processes were basically strengthened: from the occupation of chronic mental patients to long-term hospitals and from the restoration of the functional capacity of the disabled people (MOREIRA, 2008).

Objective: To evaluate the effect of chemotherapy on the physical condition of patients with advanced lung cancer. Methods: We evaluated 50 patients with non-small cell lung cancer (in stages IIIB and IV) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status scale scores between zero and two. All patients underwent chemotherapy using paclitaxel and platinum derivatives and were evaluated at three time points (prechemotherapy, postchemotherapy and six months after starting the treatment), at which the ECOG scale, the body mass index (BMI) and the six-minute walk distance (6MWD) were assessed. Results: Of the 50 patients included in the study, 14 died, 5 were excluded due to the worsening of their performance status, and 31 completed the six-month follow-up. There was no statistically significant difference between the time points of assessment for BMI (prechemotherapy vs. postchemotherapy, p = 1.00; and prechemotherapy vs. six months later, p = 0.218) or for 6MWD. Performance status improved, and this was especially due to the increase in the number of asymptomatic patients after the six-month follow-up (p = 0.031). Conclusions: Chemotherapy had a beneficial effect on the performance status of the patients. No significant changes in BMI or 6MWD were found during the study period, which might suggest the maintenance of the physical condition of the patients.

In the present study, few relationship were observed between physical condition and technical performance of the game, espe- cially in the playoffs. The hypotheses that countless correlations exist for anthropometric characteristics and physical performance tests with game-related statistics were not sustained by this study. Therefore, we speculate that the decrease in signiicant correlations from M1 to M2 could be due two main reasons: 1) the differences between the demands of the regular season and playoffs; 2) the high level of heterogeneity on the game-related statistics. It is important to note that the large heterogeneity observed in some game-related statistics variables led us to take casual effect on some correlations observed in M1, hindering even more the understanding of the relationship between these variables with the physical performance.

The Association between Job-Related Psychosocial Factors and Prolonged Fatigue among Industrial Employees in Taiwan.

The Association between Job-Related Psychosocial Factors and Prolonged Fatigue among Industrial Employees in Taiwan.

The SPSS-13.0 software for Microsoft Windows was used for statistical analysis. The demo- graphic characteristics of the participants, along with their data pertaining to physical, psycho- logical, and job-related psychosocial factors, were summarized using descriptive statistics. The Chi-square test or F-test was adopted to compare the differences in demographic characteris- tics and other surveyed variables by occupation. Pearson’s correlation was used to analyze the relationships between the continuous variables. Multiple linear regression was adopted, with age, gender, and occupation controlled, to investigate the individual relations of physical condi- tion, psychological condition, and job-related psychosocial factors to prolonged fatigue. Among the controlled factors, gender and occupation have been transformed into dummy var- iables beforehand. In order to further clarify the comparative effects of physical condition, psy- chological condition, and job-related psychosocial factors on prolonged fatigue, multiple linear regression in hierarchical ways was adopted. In model 1, the demographic characteristics of gender, age, and occupation were first put in the regression as independent variables. In model 2, physical and psychological variables were added to explore their relation to prolonged fatigue. Finally, in model 3, job demand, job control, and workplace social support were added simultaneously in order to determine the unique significances of these job-related psychosocial factors.

The associations that were found between physical and mental health statuses assessed by self-report and subjective appraisals of health quality suggest foci for research investment, such as the test of more detailed measures of mental health, vitality and happiness, as well as the investigation of variables that mediate the effects of health status on subjective health assessments. Other studies will be able to assess the effects of posi- tive self-rated health among poor health statuses and on the continuity of psychosocial functioning and of the sense of happiness among older adults. Future studies will also be able to focus on prospective research to evaluate risk and protection factors for outcomes like mortality, morbidity and disability based on somatic, psychiatric and psychological risks, on subjective well- being and on self-rated health.

Dance and Music in "Gangnam Style": How Dance Observation Affects Meter Perception.

Dance and Music in "Gangnam Style": How Dance Observation Affects Meter Perception.

Visual Stimuli. A newly-designed dance was used for the “dance” condition (Fig 1). To clearly indicate 4/4 time, the cycle of the dance motions exactly corresponded to the 4/4 meter. As Fig 1 shows, a dance pattern repeated every 2000ms, corresponding to one unit, or measure, of 4/4 time composed of the four beats (each beat of 500ms). One dance pattern consists of two parts: the first half includes the up and down movement of the body and arm, whereas the sec- ond half shows the arm swaying across the body from medial to lateral positions. The first and second half are further subdivided into two sub-components of 500ms, each corresponding to one beat. In addition, based on the results of previous research on embodied meter [31, 46], the dance movements were used to differentiate the metrical levels of beats (Fig 1). The mediolat- eral movements of the arms occurred every beat, while the lateral flexion of the upper torso occurred every two beats. To indicate the first beat of each measure (e.g. MP1), the whole body, including the arms, torso, and legs, was bounced only every four beats thereby visually accenting the downbeat. Overall then, the first beat (MP1) and the third beat (MP5) have larger motions than the other beats; moreover, MP1 is accented because of the whole-body movement while MP5 moves only limited parts of the body thus indicating a hierarchy of beats in keeping with 4/ 4 time. The dance was recorded and was paced by a sound sequence with an inter-beat interval of 500ms (120 BPM, see above description). Thus, the duration of one measure of the dance was 2 seconds (four 500ms beats). Since the dance pattern was performed alternately to the left and right side for 256 seconds, every odd measure was performed to the left side and every even mea- sure was performed to the right side. The dance video was shown in a 22.5 cm wide and 14.5 cm high window (640×360 pixels) at 25 fps frames per second (see S1 File).
