OFFENSIVE TECHNICAL-TACTICAL ANALYSIS ON NBA FINALIST TEAMS: A CASE STUDY

OFFENSIVE TECHNICAL-TACTICAL ANALYSIS ON NBA FINALIST TEAMS: A CASE STUDY

In 2014, the NBA finals counted with the participation of two teams that, overall, had different game models (collective and individual). The San Antonio Spurs (SAS) stood out for the athletes’ teamwork to win, while the Miami Heat (MIA) team focused on the technical- tactical skills of three top athletes. At the end of five games, the SAS reached to four wins and became the world champion of 2013/2014 NBA season. MacMullan’s text 15 , published on ESPN’s official website, emphasized the SAS’s teamwork as a determining factor for the team’s success, making an analogy to “a symphony of cutting and dribbling and passing and scoring”. Although the clash of two game models and the importance of teamwork for basketball success have been addressed in the media, there is so far no scientific article that has sought to verify, through a technical-tactical analysis and game indicators, the impact of the Spurs’ teamwork and the success achieved in those final games. Thus, the main objective of this investigation was to analyze offensive actions in the NBA Finals during the 2013/2014 season. The objectives were twofold: i) to verify game indicators that determined the success of the champion team; ii) to verify the association between the offensive movement of the teams in the shooting conditions of the athletes, and their efficacy.

The effects of a nonlinear pedagogy training program in the technical-tactical behaviour of youth futsal players

The effects of a nonlinear pedagogy training program in the technical-tactical behaviour of youth futsal players

With regard to the execution of dribbling actions, no significant differences were found in any of the three tactical principles of attack. Similar results were observed in a previous study. 35 These results may be due to the fact that the players, in the formative stages, have more limitations in some technical-tactical actions, as in the case of the dribbling actions. 36 It indi- cates that, with very youth players, programs based only in SSCG and questioning do not allow the devel- opment with the same magnitude of some technical skills such as dribbling in comparison with passing. 37 Indeed, Vera et al. 38 have pointed out that the execution component for the dribbling action is more complex than the decision component, due the fact that the man- agement of the ball requires high levels of coordination and good relation with the ball. Thus, actions that require high levels of coordination and management of spatial-temporal relations with opponents, such as the dribbling, there is a need to improve such actions in more controlled game environments, with lower level of variability. Thus, to develop dribbling actions more effectively in futsal, during the first stages of learning, a complementary practice focused on the management of space with direct opponent and improving the relation with the ball, to guarantee the prevalence of the execu- tion of this skill, should be ensured.

The influence of coaches’ instruction on technical actions, tactical behaviour, and external workload in football small-sided games

The influence of coaches’ instruction on technical actions, tactical behaviour, and external workload in football small-sided games

Overall, the results showed that teams in which only WSI was used for both teams, the training tasks did not change technical, tactical and external load performances. Th e results confi rmed that the use of coaches’ strategic defensive and off ensive instructions (i.e., DS and OS) constrains the technical, tactical, and physical performance of players and teams (Cushion et al., 2006; Millar et al., 2011). Regarding the team that received DS instructions, it was observed that they recovered more ball possessions in fi nal pitch areas, decreased the space occupied, and increased the distance covered in jogging. Finally, the team that received OS instructions increased the number of passes and increased the space occupied in the pitch compared to the team that did not receive instruction. Surprisingly, this team increased the distance covered in jogging in comparison to the team WSI. Th ese results highlight that the team that did not receive initial instruction explored individ- ual and collective possibilities for action only based on situational information and without considering the strategic collective behaviour of the team (Renshaw et al., 2009). Th e defi nition of the strategic defensive or off ensive behaviour allows that teams to direct the attention to taskwork with implicit coordination related with the goals previously defi ned in comparison with the team that did not receive such information (Eccles & Tenenbaum, 2004).

Since the current soccer calendar does not provide a timely fashion for proper recovery of athletes, fatigue and recovery have been extensively studied by researchers. What led to the emergence of some instruments for the purpose of provide information and give support to the professionals seeking high performance. The aim of this study was to analyze the intensity of technical-tactical training and fatigue caused in U20 soccer players, through the performance in the lower limbs and session RPE. Players (n = 25) performed the countermovement vertical jump (CMJ) and horizontal (HJ), before and after a technical-tactical training session (TTT), with the intensity being measured by Borg Scale (CR 10). The CMJ did not show signifi cant difference (p > 0.05), whereas HJ was higher in the post-TTT compared to pre-TTT (p = 0.02). As for session RPE, 92% of players rated the intensity of the TTT as easy to moderate. The results of this study indicate that TTT low intensity does not compromise the power in testing vertical and horizontal jump. It is suggested that besides providing an operationalization of tactical patterns of collective behavior, TTT low intensity training can be used in regenerative or character moments in the sports calendar does not enable complete recovery of players.

Moreira et al. (2005) have demonstrated the effects of a preparatory stage composed by a ive week meso cycle based on the selective loads model on lower limbs power and veloc- ity in professional female basketball players. Using the T-40, vertical jumps (squat and countermovement), horizontal jump and unilateral triple horizontal jump (left and right legs), it was observed a signiicant increase in both variables, differently from our data, showing that these variables did change just after the competitive stage I. It is possible to attribute this difference to the training content used in the preparatory stage in our study, with emphasis on speciic endurance (technical-tactical train- ing), aerobic power and strength endurance. Other possible explanation is the itness of the participants.

only from the players’ actions that can be observed (Anguera, 2003; Blanco, 1993; Kimberlin & Winterstein, 2008; McCall, 1984). The instrument allows us to obtain information about the technique and tactics used by players to resolve the game situa- tions. It allows us to establish relationships between the manner of execution and temporal and spatial aspects of the execution with the effect of the actions on the game. These data allow us to set the player proile regarding technical-tactical actions and physical actions (Hughes & Bartlett, 2002), teams’ game patterns, game dynamics, how tasks or environmental aspects affect game actions (Newell, 1986), etc. This applied instrument cannot describe the complexity of human motor performance (Glazier, 2010). However, it can provide information to resear- chers and academics to help them better understand team sports as well as to coaches and players to assist them in planning, monitoring, analyzing, and guiding the aspects that affect the game. Therefore, the purpose of this paper was to design and validate an observational instrument to analyze technical and tactical actions in beach volleyball.

Abstract – Soccer performance is multifactorial and is characterized by the interaction of technical, tactical, physical, physiological, and psychological components; however, few studies have investigated the direct relationship between these components in soccer players. he aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between tactical performance indices (ofensive and defensive) and passing, dribbling and shooting technical skills. he FUT-SAT test was used to evaluate tactical behavior and the General Soccer Ability Skill Test Battery to assess technical performance. he Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Spearman’s correlation coeicient were used for statistical analysis. A low correlation was observed between tactical indices (ofensive and defensive) and technical skills (shooting, pass and dribbling). Low correlations were also found between the dribbling skill and penetration/width and length with the ball, and between the shot on goal skill and shoot- ing on goal during the game. hese results indicate a gap between the knowledge of “how to do it”, i.e., technical skills, and the knowledge of “what to do”, i.e., tactical knowledge. his gap highlights the need to improve the assessment of technical skills, which should also occur in the game context, such as small-sided games. We conclude that ofensive and defensive tactical performance is poorly correlated with passing, dribbling and shooting technical skills in youth soccer players.

In our research, all physical capacities improved in the CP with selective loads periodization and the maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2 max), lower body strength, muscle power, agility, lexibility and muscular endurance of abdominal and lexion the arms, when compared with the beginning PP, were maintained in the PCF (Table 3). Each physical capacity plays a decisive role in the performance of athletes. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO 2 max) will provide faster recovery between intense stimuli, increasing the permanence of the players in game. Agility will be used in high-speed movement and change of direction and the offensive and defensive phases. Muscle power of lower limbs is essential for rapid movements as jumps, kicks, dribbling, disputes for spaces and markings. (Castagna, D’ottavio, Vera, & Alvarez, 2008; Castagna & Alvarez, 2010; Witvrouw, Danneels, Asselman, D’have, & Cambier, 2003; Achour Junior, 1996). Therefore, it is essential to improve the physical capabilities during the preparatory period and maintain the competitive period to withstand all requirements imposed by the games and technical/tactical training. To our knowledge, our study is the irst to report the effect of a periodization program in female futsal players during training and competitive season.

Parametric Portfolio Policies: An application for a Global Tactical Asset Allocation Model

Parametric Portfolio Policies: An application for a Global Tactical Asset Allocation Model

With previous evidence that there are potential gains from attempting to time the market, I will proceed to develop a tactical asset allocation model based on the Brandt, Santa-Clara and Valkanov (2009) parametric portfolio policy approach. The next part of the paper will focus on the methods used to create a global tactical asset allocation model, followed by a discussion of the obtained results and ending with concluding remarks. I find that using this method significantly improves performance versus the benchmark portfolio as well as a Markowitz optimization approach.

Reinterpreting the mutual fund theorem: the risk portfolio as a tactical overlay

Reinterpreting the mutual fund theorem: the risk portfolio as a tactical overlay

In addition, notice that it is exactly this “separation” between the Riskless Security and the N-1 risk assets – which is literally done by force so that the coefficient matrix can be inverted – that will lead to the misconceptions about what de facto is the Risk Portfolio, as implied by the Mutual Fund Theorem. At this point, it suffices to say that the Risk Portfolio will not be this Portfolio of N - 1 risk assets - as the Finance literature commonly interprets it to be - but rather the tactical overlay portfolio that will be defined in Section IV below.

eTourism Strategic and tactical impacts of information communication technologies for tourism

eTourism Strategic and tactical impacts of information communication technologies for tourism

The rapid increase of the reliability, speed and capacity of ICTs, in combination with the deduction of their cost, gradually force tourism organisations to adapt and use these new tools. Innovative tourism organisations take advantage of the new tools to enhance their value added and to gain competitive advantages. New players are increasingly attracted to take advantage of the electronic marketplace emerging and to serve the new wired cus- tomer. Location becomes much less significant in tran- sactions and therefore global competition intensifies. ICTs have also reduced the cost of operations by decrea- sing the number of people required for back office jobs. Some of these resources can be re-directed to consumer care and contact. However a large proportion of tourism organisations has been observing these trends passively and have failed to address the requirements of the mar- ketplace. These organisations increasingly lose market share and eventually will be forced out of the market as they will be unable to compete with the value added and interaction benefits offered in the new global market. The following paragraphs synthesise the developments in ICTs’ utilisation for strategic and tactical management during the last decade for key tourism sectors and also illustrate some indications for the future directions of the industry.

A GENERIC TACTICAL PLANNING MODEL TO SUPPLY A BIOREFINERY WITH BIOMASS

A GENERIC TACTICAL PLANNING MODEL TO SUPPLY A BIOREFINERY WITH BIOMASS

This article presents a mixed integer linear program (MILP), developed in the frame of a French national project to optimize the biomass supply chain of one biorefinery with a typical supply radius of 50 km. This multi-biomass and multi-period tactical planning model combines several features, either original or considered separately in the literature. It determines for each period the amount processed by each activity (harvesting, packing, transportation, preprocessing...), the flows in the logistics network, the required equipment and the stock levels. The goal is to satisfy the needs of the refinery while minimizing the total cost of the system. The modeling approach is generic and flexible enough to be extended to most biomass-to-bioenergy supply chains at the tactical decision level.
