A amostra foi composta por atletas de taekwondo em diferentes faixas etárias, mas com o mesmo nível de competitividade. Embora a idade e o gênero possam ter influência sobre o desempenho em atividades intermitentes, a proposta do estudo foi verificar a efetividade do PCI sobre o desempenho individual. No cálculo do tamanho da amostra no programa G* power foi designado 19 atletas, no entanto, os atletas são de nível internacional. Sendo assim, consideramos que os resultados representam o maior desempenho atingido pelos atletas da modalidade e pode ser reproduzido nas condições de treinamento e de competições oficiais. Não foi avaliado os mecanismos que pudessem explicar os efeitos do PCI sobre o desempenho e retardo da fadiga muscular, no entanto, abre-se uma janela de possibilidades para estudos futuros.
