Es t ino-am bién im port ant e m encionar que la revist a Mat eria es de acceso grat uit o, caso raro ent re revist as cient íficas de calidad, garant izando así acceso a la inform ación a t odos los invest igadores lat ino- am ericanos del área de m at eriales y afines.

The year of 2006 was a very significant one for t he j ournal Mat eria, concerning it s edit orial organizat ion. This w as t he year in w hich t he j ournal w as accept ed by SciELO, an im port ant Lat in- Am erican indexing agent t hat w ill give it yet m ore visibilit y. But it w as also t he year in w hich all t he docum ent s of current use by t he j ournal w ere rew rit t en, such as inst ruct ions t o t he aut hors, t he t em plat e file used as guide for w rit ing art icles, t he docum ent for confirm at ion of aut horship and copy- right t ransfer, being now all present ed in t hree languages, English, Port uguese and Spanish. Besides t hat , t he Edit orial Board w as enlarged and t his last edit ion of t he year is publishing a com plet e list ing of all t hose w ho part icipat ed in t he enorm ous effort involving t he peer-review ing of art icles.
t hat st ill undergo for m at t ing adj ust m ent s and const it ut e a wait ing list ing in t he publicat ion agenda. Because of t his enlarged num ber of art icles subm it t ed for publicat ion, t he j ournal has m ade a base publicat ion plan for t he w hole year of 2007. I t w ill be subj ect ed t o cont ent m odificat ions during t he year t o include t he new art icles t hat w ill be spont aneously sent t o t he j ournal during t he year, w hich w ill be im m ediat ely analyzed t o know if t hey are adequat e considering t he j ournal’s obj ect ive and also t he j ournal’s form at t ing requirem ent s, before ent ering t he peer- review ing process.
I t is also im port ant m ent ioning t hat w it hin t hese last t w elve m ont hs t he num ber of accesses t o t he j ournal’s sit e has increased splendidly. The average num ber of accesses t o t he j our nal’s sit e was about 4.800 in 2005 and j um ped t o m ore t han 12.000 in 2006, reaching at t he end of t he year a m ont hly num ber of accesses in excess of 22.000. By ent ering int o t he SciELO indexing sit e, t hese num ber s m ight st ill increase in 2007. This is a dem onst rat ion t hat t he j ournal is being consist ent ly used by t he Lat in-Am erican scient ific com m unit y t o which it is designed. I t is also very im port ant t o m ent ion t hat Mat eria is a scient ific j our nal t o w hich t he access is free, which is rare am ong qualified scient ific j ournals, t herefore guarant eeing access t o infor m at ion t o all Lat in- Am erican researcher s belonging t o t he ar ea of m at erials and correlat ed ones.
