BIOINFORMATICS

MATTHIESEN, R. Bioinformatics methods in clinical research. New York: Humana Press, 2010. 387 p.

This book “Bioinformatics Methods in Clinical Research edited by Rune Matthiesen” contains sixteen chapters, and results from scientific cooperation of academics, specialists in the main areas of investigation on bioinformatics methods, a n d a p p l i c a t i o n s i n clinical research from centers and universities of Europe such as Denmark, Spain, Portugal as well as Canada and the United States of North America. The irst chapters comprise an introduction to bioinformatics and its application for the control of biological processes, and subsequent chapters contain the main bioinformatics advances reported for clinical investigation on genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, interactiomics and metabolomics. Integration of bioinformatics methods for analysis of biological processes links theory and practices by using advanced calculations, computational methods and approximations for the control of the time course of biological processes, and also speciic methods and algorithms by applying mass spectrometry. Finally, several speciic ields are discussed including biomarkers in breast cancer and computational methods for two-dimensional analyses in gels.
