REQUEST OF THE GOVERNMENT OF GUYANA FOR ADMISSION IN THE PAN AMERICAN HEALTH ORGANIZATION
The Director submitted to the 56th Meeting of the Executive Committee the attached Document CE56/4, in which he reported that the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs of Guyana had applied on 20 September 1966, on behalf of his Government, for Membership
in the Pan American Health Organization.
After consideration of the information contained in the above-mentioned document, the Executive Committee unanimously adopted the following
RESOLUTION I
"THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE,
Having examined the application of the Government of Guyana for Membership in the Pan American Health Organization, contained in a letter dated 20 September 1966 from MroP.H.Ceid, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs, to the
Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau,
RESOLVES:
1. To take note of the application of the Government of Guyana for Membership in the Pan American Health Organization, which it instructs the Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau to transmit to the Directing Council.
2. To recommend to the Directing Council that it give
favorable consideration to the application of the Government
of Guyana for Membership in the Pan American Health Organization."
In conformity with this resolution the Director has the honor to submit to the Directing Council the request of the Government of Guyana for Membership in the Pan American Health Organization.

On 20 September 1966 the Acting Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs of Guyana, Mr. P.H. Ceid, sent the Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau the following letter:
"Sir,
I have the honour to apply, on behalf of the Government of Guyana, for membership in the Pan American Health Organiza-tion in accordance with Article 2A of the ConstituOrganiza-tion of the Organization.
Guyana became an independent and sovereign state on
26th May, 1966. Accordingly, Guyana now wishes to become a full member in her own right.
The Government of Guyana is willing and prepared to ful-fil the financial obligations imposed on members in accordance with the Constitution of the Pan American Organization, to com-ply with the provisions of the Pan American Sanitary Codes as
amended by the additional Protocol of 1952, and to co-operate
fully with the other Member States in the work of the Organization.

The Director sent this letter to all Governments of the Organization, informing them that the application of Guyana would be examined at the 56th Meeting of the Executive Committee.
It should be pointed out that on 27 September 1966 the Government of Guyana deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, a formal
instrument of acceptance of the Constitution of the World Health Organization. As a member of that Organization, Guyana was represented at the XVII Pan
American Sanitary Conference, XVIII Meeting of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for the Americas, by a delegation whose credentials were accepted at the Sixth Plenary Session held on 28 September.
