Right to Life LIFESPAN 4th of July

Our country was created because of a desire to be free—free to worship, free to speak, free to assemble, and free to seek aid from our government. It was founded on the principle that we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There are times when we struggle to assure these rights, but we know that the Right to Life is fundamental to them all.

Daughters of Isabella Meeting: September 1st @ 7:00 p.m.

Any Catholic woman who is 16 or older can join. We are women from all walks of life - professionals, full-time moms, retirees, the young and the young at heart. We all belong for our own personal reasons: Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month (except July & Au- gust) at 7:00 p.m. in the carpeted meeting room. We cur- rently have approximately 35 members and are looking to expand our membership.

Alhambra is the only charitable Catholic organization here at St. Perpetua that is co-ed. We meet on the 2nd Thurs- day of the month right after the 7 p.m. Mass. If you are Catholic, over 18 years of age, take a look at us. Check out our information table in the Church hall, drop in during one of our meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of the month, following the 7p.m. Mass, or feel free to contact Ted Gozdzialski at 248-318-6120.

Take Five for Faith Hang in there

Each of us will be put to the test when it comes to our faith. How we react to tragedy, scorn, injustice, bore- dom, betrayal, illness, and loss will present moments of truth for us. Will our faith endure? Saint Paul tells the Romans that “tribulation brings about perseverance;

and perseverance, proven character; and proven char- acter, hope.” Paul knew a thing or two about persever- ance. His lengthy missionizing sea journeys covered something on the magnitude of 10,000 miles and many months on often rough seas. When you feel tested, turn to Paul for inspiration. Stay the course!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP The Prophecy of You and Me

Prophet. There’s a heaviness to this word. It’s weighted down with meaning. We think of prophets and we think of Charlton Heston with wild hair and a booming voice, reaching out his hand to work wonders of nature by the grace of God. We think of prophets and we think of an- cient Biblical history — someone far away, someone so removed from our everyday life. A prophet is someone who knows something we don’t.

When I let you in on this secret, it might scare you at first:

in a way, God is calling you to be a prophet. He is calling me. He is calling anyone who hears the truth of the Gos- pel. However, there is no need for the megaphone and the wild locusts. This prophet gig might not be what you’re thinking.

What does a prophet do? He hears and testifies to the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s un- popular, even when it results in, as Paul says,

“weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions and con- straints.” A prophet doesn’t have to be smart or rich or ordained; heck, he doesn’t even have to be particularly willing.

All a prophet has to do is listen to the truth. The truth we receive from Christ, through the Gospel and the sacra- ments, is a mighty gift. But it is a gift that we are not meant to simply keep for ourselves. In possessing it, we are compelled to also pass it on, to share it, to let the Spirit set us on our feet.

Fr. Daniele Criscione, PIME, will be coming to St. Perpetua to present the mission appeal on behalf of the PIME Missionaries on the weekend of July 17th & 18th . Fr. Daniele is from Ra- gusa on the island of Sicily in Italy. He was ordained a PIME priest on April 6, 2013. From 2012- 2017 he worked in Mission Outreach at the PIME Mis- sionaries Mission Center in Milan, Italy. Also, during this time he was Pastoral Assistant at the Sacret Heart Catholic University in Milan. He was assigned to the U.S. Delega- tion arriving in October of 2017. Fr. Daniele is currently the Mission Center Director at the PIME U.S. Mission Cen- ter in Detroit. Please welcome Fr. Daniele to St. Perpetua.

Have you heard?

We have hearing devices available for those in need to be used during Mass. Please see an usher for assistance.

Here is a prayer that was received from a very close friend of Fr Jack. We need to pray daily to be in un- ion with Fr Jack because he prays this prayer daily and it gives him great consolation.

Oh My God, you have created me to do some definite service.

You have committed some work to me that You have not committed to another.

I have my mission, I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.

I will trust You, whatever, wherever I am.

If I am in sickness, my sickness will serve You.

If I am in perplexity, my perplexity may serve You.

If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve You.

You do nothing in vain. You know what you are about.

Though friends be taken away, though I feel desolate, though my spirits sink,

though my future is hidden from me,

yet I will trust You, for You know what You are about.

I ask not so much to see as to be used:

through Christ our Lord, Amen
