Inthisissuewehavetwoarticlesofgreatinteresttothe clin-icalpractice of Rheumatology as well as other specialties. DesignedprimarilyformembersoftheCommissionsof Epi-demiologyandRheumatoidArthritisoftheBrazilianSociety ofRheumatology(SBR),theypresentaconsensusofspecialists basedonaliteraturereview.
ThefirstarticleisareviewofBrazetal.1onthetreatment
ofintestinalparasitesinpatientswithautoimmunerheumatic diseases,whichaddressesthesituationsof immunosuppres-sionriskoftenexperienced.Thisisanarticlethatdiscussesa topicthathasnotreceiveddueimportance,bothinscientific mediaandinthedailypracticeofrheumatologists,whostrive topreventviralandbacterialinfectionsandtuberculosis,often neglectingparasiticinfections.Perhapsthisoccursinfaceof theshortageofreportsofseriousinfectionsbytheseagents. Ontheotherhand,theauthorscommentonthehigh morbid-ityandmortalityofsuchinfectionsinthispopulation,which servesasabasisforprescribingtreatmentandprophylactic druginterventions.
Thesecond articleis apositioning from Motaet al.2 in
faceoftheunavailabilityofthetuberculinskintest(PPD),the recommendedtoolintheevaluationandtreatmentoflatent tuberculosisinpatientswithrheumatoidarthritis.Thelackof reagentforthetest,reportedbytheMinistryofHealth,has broughtgrowingimpactfromthesecondhalfof2014,causing concernbothforphysiciansandpatientsandalsodelaysinthe prescribinganddispensingofbiologicals,aswellas prescrip-tionswithouttherecommendedcare.Heretheauthorsshow howthephysicianshouldproceedinthiscontextand high-lighttheimportanceofprovisionofinterferongammarelease assays,testsknownasIGRA(interferon-␥releaseassays),to
