O período de consolidação da sociologia que se segue à II Guerra Mundial é marcado pela diferenciação dos objectos, linguagens conceptuais e metodologias. É valorizada, neste contexto, a articulação da diversidade das teorias com a unidade do campo disciplinar. A abordagem dos conteúdos e as metodologias utilizadas pretendem atingir quatro objectivos principais: conhecer linguagens estruturantes do campo teórico da sociologia; compreender a coerência de cada uma das teorias e identificar problemáticas transversais que permitam relacioná-las; reconhecer a multiplicidade das significações atribuídas ao mesmo léxico; problematizar as relações entre a diversidade dos referentes teóricos e a construção de objectos de pesquisa.
The period of consolidation of sociology after World War II is shaped by the differentiation of objects, languages and methodologies. In this context, emphasis is given to the articulation between the diversity of theories and the unity of the disciplinary field. The approach of the contents and the teaching methodologies used have four main objectives: to introduce to the languages that structure the theoretical field of sociology; to understand the coherence of each theory discussed, and to identify cross-cutting issues that help establishing links between them; to recognize the multiplicity of meanings given to the same vocabulary; to question the relationship between the diversity of the theoretical references and the construction of research objects.

Teaching Methodology:
As metodologias utilizadas conjugam a visão global e sistemática das matérias (aulas teóricas) com o incentivo à autonomia e reflexão crítica dos alunos (aulas práticas; reuniões de trabalho destinadas ao acompanhamento individual). Esta orientação geral exige:
1. A articulação de uma perspectiva unitária das teorias com o estudo intensivo de textos de apoio.
2. O desenvolvimento de capacidades de leitura e interpretação.
3. A formulação de temas e/ou problemas de pesquisa.
Methodologies used seek to combine a global and systematic view of the subject-matters (theoretical teaching), and to stimulate the students’ autonomy and critical thinking (practical classes; working sessions for an individual follow up). This general orientation requires:
1. The linking of a unitary perspective on theories with intensive reading of the texts supplied.
2. The development of reading and interpretive skills.
3. The formulation of research issues and/or problems.
