OBJETIVOS DE APRENDIZAGEM (CONHECIMENTOS, APTIDÕES E COMPETÊNCIAS A DESENVOLVER PELOS ESTUDANTES):
Pretende-se desenvolver as grandes questões relacionadas com as mutações dos procedimentos jornalísticos e estimular o debate sobre elas, no quadro das novas tecnologias, da concorrência entre os meios de comunicação social, das exigências da investigação jornalística. Com base no comentário de textos, em estudos de caso e no debate com especialistas ou profissionais convidados, os estudantes serão solicitados a equacionar o lugar da profissão de jornalista na "cadeia de produção dos media" e na democracia contemporânea.
LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE CURRICULAR UNIT:
The main objectives of this unit are: to study the big issues of changes in journalistic routines and stimulate the debate about them, framed by the context of new media technologies, the business of news, the demands of investigative journalism.
The students are invited to put in perspective the role of journalists in media production environments and in contemporary democracy, analyzing texts, case studies and debating the future of journalism with different specialists.

O ?valor? do jornalismo: mediação e especialização; O jornalista multifunções: desafios e ameaças ; A memória no jornalismo e o trabalho jornalístico sobre a memória; Imagens jornalísticas: as novas imagens e o futuro do fotojornalismo
II. Condições de trabalho e identidade profissional
Como os jornalistas vêem a profissão? A precariedade e auto-emprego; Jornalistas, bloggers , cidadãos-repórteres: da concorrência à contaminação ; A falta de meios nas redações e a ditadura da atualidade.
III. Tecnologias digitais e jornalismo contemporâneo
O ciberespaço como fonte de informação; Blogues e jornalismo participativo; Credibilidade e seleção de informação; A convergência dos meios (interseções e colisões)

I. Journalistic processes and products
Journalistic ?value? ? mediation, specialization; Multitasking journalist: challenges and risks; Memory and journalism and journalism work on memory; Journalistic new images and the future of photojournalism.
II. working conditions and professional identity
Self perceptions of journalists about their profession; Precariousness and self-employment; Journalists, bloggers and citizen reporters: from competition to contamination; The lack of resources in newsroom and the dictatorship of the present.
III. Digital Technologies and Contemporary Journalism
Cyberspace as an information source; Blogs and participatory journalism; Credibility and selecting information; The media convergence.
IV ? Transformation of the Audiences
The question of the access: paywalls, free newspaper; Mass media paradigm and self media paradigm; Media literacy and journalism; The power of audiences in journalism production; Intermittent attention and in-depth journalism.
DEMONSTRAÇÃO DA COERÊNCIA DOS CONTEÚDOS PROGRAMÁTICOS COM OS OBJETIVOS DA UNIDADE CURRICULAR:
Objectivos: analisar as grandes questões relacionadas com as mutações dos procedimentos jornalísticos e questionar os seus conceitos-chave. Conteúdos: processos e produtos jornalísticos
Objectivos: compreender as exigências da investigação jornalística. Conteúdos: ciberespaço como fonte de informação. Credibilidade e seleção de informação.
Objectivos: entender o contexto as a implicações da omnipresença do visual. Conteúdos: As novas imagens do jornalismo e o futuro do fotojornalismo.
Objectivos: conhecer e debater as transformações tecnológicas que determinam alterações na produção jornalística e permitem a participação activa dos cidadãos. Conteúdos: tecnologias digitais e jornalismo contemporâneo: blogues e jornalismo participativo.
Objectivos: debater o papel das audiências. Conteúdos: mutação das audiências: paradigma de mass media e paradigma de self media; o poder das audiências na produção jornalística; saturação e fragmentação.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE SYLLABUS COHERENCE WITH THE CURRICULAR UNIT'S OBJECTIVES:
Objective: to analyze the most important issues related to the transformations of journalistic procedures, questioning its key concepts. Contents: procedures and journalistic products.
Objective: to understand the demands of investigative journalism. Contents: Cyberspace as journalism source; Credibility and news selection
Objective: Understanding contexts and implications of the ubiquity of visual images; Contents: Journalistic new images and the future of photojournalism.
Objective: to debate the technological transformations that determine new journalistic routines and allow the active participation of citizens. Contents: digital technologies and contemporary journalism: blogs and participatory journalism; the citizen reporter.
Objective: to analyse and debate the role of audiences. Contents: transformation of audiences.
METODOLOGIAS DE ENSINO (AVALIAÇÃO INCLUÍDA):
Serão disponibilizados textos para comentário oral em aula. O grupo de alunos indicado, para cada aula, terá uma semana para se preparar. Os restantes alunos serão chamados a intervir para comentar as apresentações; devem eftuar, pelo menos, três recensões críticas com base nos textos indicados para as apresentações e outros que os complementem, de acordo com as seguintes indicações: dimensão de três páginas, Times New Roman, corpo 12, espaço 1,5, justificado. Estes textos deverão ser entregues na semana seguinte à sua apresentação oral. Poderão existir sessões com convidados e/ou outras atividades, susceptíveis de participação por parte dos alunos.
A nota final de cada aluno será o resultado dos três melhores trabalhos escritos (60%), da apresentação oral (20%) e da participação nas discussões em aula/atividades (20%)

TEACHING METHODOLOGIES (INCLUDING EVALUATION):
Texts will be available to orally comment in class. The group indicated for each class will have one week to prepare the presentation. The remaining students will be asked to comment on the presentations. They must to write critical comments (3 minimum) based on these texts and / or others related with, according to the following rules: three pages (maximum), Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing, justified. Sessions are foreseen with the presence of guests, in which students should participate. Students should make the delivery of their critical comments to the format indicated on the next week from the presentation in class.
The final score (10 is the minimum to be approved) for each student will be the result of the three best papers (60%) of the oral presentation (20%) and the discussions in class/activities.

Objectives: The main objectives of this unit are: to study the big issues of changes in journalistic routines and stimulate the debate about them, framed by the context of new media technologies, the business of news, the demands of investigative journalism.
Methodologies: The students are invited to put in perspective the role of journalists in media production environments and in contemporary democracy, analyzing texts, case studies and debating with different specialists the future of journalism.
