NECRÓLOGIO
RALPH ARTHUR NEAL* PhD (1925-1990)
Clifford Dobell’s last doctorate student was Neal who never lost his interest in Intestinal Protozoa. However his main work was to try to find a therapeutic answer for T r y p a n o s o m a c r u z i and leishmanial infec tions of man. He devoted decades to this endeavour at the Wellcome laboratories in Beckenham Kent Al though never really successful he never lost heart and was always optimistic about the future. His special experience in this field meant that he was selected to serve the World Health Organisation in various capaci ties. Retirement was never contemplated and he spent
his closing years in the Department of Protozoology of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Virtually his last presentation of new work on expe rimental therapeutics of these two South American endemic protozoal diseases was given at the Núcleo of Medicine Tropical of the University of Brasilia. As always he illuminated new therapeutic possibilities with wit and wisdom. We shall not see his like again.
