Below is a list of Asus utilities/bloatware that may come with your new Asus
notebook. If you're unsure about which utilities are useful or safe to uninstall,
this list should give you some insight.
Wireless Console Utility
- Also known as Wireless Console 2 or 3. A program that helps to toggle between wifi and bluetooth. Not essential for wifi and bluetooth to work but is possibly needed when you do not have dedicated WLAN or BT on/off buttons on yournotebook. In such a case, the only comfortable (w.r.t. number of keypresses) way to cycle through WLAN--BT on--off, on--on, off--on, off--off states is with this utility.
Virtual Camera Utility
- Allows multi-Window Video Conferencing Live video conference with up to 4 contacts worldwide simultaneously. The ASUS virtual camera feature allows multi-window net meeting with customization of resolution, filter & frames according to personal preference. Not essential for webcam to work.Splendid
- The exclusive feature integrates different multimedia data sources to reduce noise and conversion rate for a sharp display. Users can enjoy vivid images with better contrast, brightness, skin tone and color saturation for all video applications. Click here to view flash intro of this feature. Personally, I'd uninstall it since Nvidia's control panel can pretty much do the same.LifeFrame
- Imaging software for recording/capturing audio and video. Serves as a security software with motion triggered image capture when set to the Monitor mode. Not essential for webcam to work.Multi Frame
- A utility which helps divide and organize opened windows. Potentially useful, but non-essential utilitySmart Logon
- Substitute your windows login password with face recognition. A niffty but non-essential feature. This utility is actually not so smart, people can logon with a picture of you. Recommend not using and instead, use a strong password.Direct Console/Direct Console 2
- A utility for controlling Direct Message on your OLED display and Direct Flash (flashing lights) for the ASUS G series notebooks. Depending on the notebook and software version you have, Direct Console also allows your Asus to run at different power states. I'd recommend keeping this utility installed.ExpressGate
- Based on Linux, this utility features a graphical user interface, web browser, Skype, and a chat client based on Pidgin. It allows users to fully utilize these features without having to boot into Windows. Using ExpressGate instead of Windows does not help conserve battery life. - A utility that shows your system information such as CPU and HDD temperatures and how many RPMs your notebook fan is spinning. I would recommend using the EasyFlash utility integrated in the BIOS to update the BIOS instead, rather than the Windows utility, which can be buggy -- or can be interrupted by an unrelated error in Windows. For more information regarding EasyFlash, please see EBE's Asus BIOS update Guide.
CopyProtect
- A program that prevents the unauthorized reproduction of data in notebooks. When locked, the contents in the notebook will not be reproduced by burning a CD/DVD, transferred to a floppy disc, an external storage or network drive. A nice tool to have if you're carrying sensitive data on your notebook.Data Security Manager
- Designed to improve system security and productivity by consolidating your passwords and network accounts within a single data unit called User Identity. - As the title suggested, this is a trial version of MS Office 2007 (30 or 60 days depending on country). Uninstall is optional. If you do not want to spend extra $ for MSOffice, there are other alternatives such as OpenOffice and IBM Lotus Symphony.
Microsoft Works
- Usually seen on Asus netbooks, MS Works is a watered-down version of MS Office. Programs included are a word processor, spreadsheet, and database. These are different from Word, Excel, or Access.Asus WebStorage

AI Recovery
- A system restoring utility that allows you to create recovery disks. AI Recovery can only be used with notebooks that have a preinstalled OS and a hidden partition. I'd recommend keeping this program until restore disks are made.ChkMail
- A utility that checks your e-mail inbox for unread mail. The programs is linked to your e-mail LED status light. Not essential and can be uninstalled safely.KB Filter

Uninstall if you already have other backup and syncing means.I would like to help people, like me, who want to install a multiboot system with Windows 7 und OSX Lion on an ASUS K50IJ Notebook.
I had to find every little bit of info one by one on the net, so I thought, I share, how you can build a working system, so you don’t have to waste your time.
Please note, that this walkthrough IS really ONLY for that notebook! (I don't know if it works on other systems)
So let’s get started:
First of all I assume that you have a completely empty and virgin laptop with nothing on it, just an unformatted HDD and a Windows 7 DVD.
You also will need an external USB keyboard!
Check in BIOS, if your SATA setting in "Advanced" is on “Enhanced”
Start the windows installer from your DVD and make at least 2 Partitions (Primary) on your HDD.
Format the first one for Windows and install it.
When your Windows is running, rename your C: partition to “Windows” (or whatever you want) for easier recognition later.
Download the iAtkos L1.dmg to your Windows. Yes! http://torrentz.eu/8...61b48785b9b6f84 Download UltraISO and convert the .dmg file to an .ISO file.
Download TransMac and burn the ISO to a 4.7GB DVD. (Probably nothing else will work!) http://www.acutesystems.com/scrtm.htm
Start mac install from your newly created Lion DVD.
When the iAtkos logo appears, hit F8 and type “–v” (without the “” of course) so your install is in verbose mode and you always see, what is happening.
If the install seems to be hanging, don’t panic! Just wait! Sooner or later it will finish. After the actual installer appeared and you are on the first screen, chose your language. On the next page go to the top menu bar and chose “Utilities” and there chose “Disk Utility”. In the “Disk Utility” on the left side you will see your “Windows” partition and below your other partition(s) with names, like disk0s1
Click the next one under your Windows partition and on the right side click the “Erase” tab. On the new screen chose “Mac OSX (journaled)” and give it a name e.g “Macintosh”. Click the “Erase” button and wait for the blue progress bar being finished (should last a few seconds only).
If it is finished, click the “Disk Utility” tab on the top menu bar and close the disk utility. Now you are back on the install window again. Click next. Agree to the iAtkos Licence and click next.
On the next screen chose your freshly erased partition named “Macintosh” and then click the “Customize” button on the left side.
In the popping up window click the “Drivers” dropdown menu and mark the checkbox next to the “PS2 Mouse/Keyboard” driver, and the VOODOOHD audio driver, then close the window. Back again on the installer screen, where you marked your Macintosh partition, click install. Wait for the install being finished. Restart your notebook. Eject the DVD, so the system boots from the HDD.
When your system is booted up, the first thing you will see is a picture of a keyboard and it will tell you, that your keyboard couldn’t be found.
Don’t panic!
Connect your USB keyboard. Suddenly you will be able to finish your installation. Don’t bother with most of the things. Fill only, what you absolutely need or want to fill. When you finished installation and you are on the macintosh desktop, you can detach your USB keyboard. Test your built in keyboard on the text edit app.
Now, if everything works so far, restart your notebook (installing wifi and changing resolution we will come back later!).
IMPORTANT!
Put your Lion DVD back into the drive and boot from it again, like if you would reinstall the whole thing again.
After choosing your language click the “Utilities” tab again in the top menu bar. Choose “Terminal” where you need to set your Windows partition Active. In the black Terminal window you have to do the following:

Setting Your Partition "Active" Using Fdisk
1. Determine which disk your Windows partition is on
Type diskutil list
Verify which disk number holds your partition (disk0, disk1, etc.)
2. Start using Fdisk
Assuming the Windows disk is the first disk ("disk0"), then type fdisk -e
/dev/rdisk0 <== use "rdisk" with your disk number here !! Ignore the error "fdisk: could not open MBR file ..."
3. Determine which partition for Windows needs to be set "Active"
Type p
Verify which partition is for Windows (1, 2, 3, etc.)
4. Set the partition "Active"
Assuming it is partition 1, then type f 1 <== use your partition number here !!
5. Save and exit
Type y (yes you are sure)
Type exit (to quit)
6. Remove the install DVD and reboot
Now put your Windows DVD back into the drive and start booting from the windows DVD, because you have to repair your Windows Boot sector to be able to boot into Windows again. When you are on the first screen in Windows Installer, choose your language and click next. On the second screen at the bottom you see an option “repair your previous install” (or similar).
Click it.
A grey window will pop up and a blue progress bar appear. When it is finished, you get a restart button.
Restart your notebook and
IMPORTANT!
Boot AGAIN from your windows DVD and do the same again.
Now in the grey window you will see your C: partition and the blue progress bar.
It is possible, that when it is finished, you get a new window with different options. Click the first one and when it is finished, click the “restart” button, eject your windows DVD and boot into Windows from the HDD.
When in Windows again, download the program called EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1
In EasyBCD click the “Add new entry” button on the lefz and on the new screen click the “Mac” tab.
Choose a name for your start menu option like “Macintosh” and from the drop down menu choose “MBR”. This is very important, otherwise you will have problems with booting into mac.
Now click “Add Entry” and then go to the “Edit Boot Menu” and check windows as your primary OS. SAVE and close the program.
Now restart your system and you will have an option to boot into windows OR into mac. Boot into mac.
Now we will change the resolution of our monitor.
In Finder click the GO button on the top menu bar and choose "Computer" and choose your Macintosh partition.
In the search field type "Boot.plist"
Right click the appearing "org.chameleon.Boot.plist" and choose "open enclosing folder" Copy that plist onto your desktop and open it with text edit.
Right above the </dict> tag copy this:
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
Save the file.
Now go to the original and delete it (or back it up elsewhere).
Put the edited one into the original directory. Authorize it with your admin password. When you boot into mac the next time, your resolution will be native asus resolution.
Making WIFI work.
Download (Atheros) AR9285 kext on http://www.osx86.net...?do=file&id=462
Install it with kext utility (open /Applications/Utilities/Tools/kext utility and drop the kext onto it)
Now you have wifi.
IMPORTANT: works only if 802.11g is disabled.
For ethernet use this: http://www.osx86.net...do=file&id=1913 That's all.
