A NOSSA DIOCESE & COMUNIDADE
Começamos cada Novembro com as festas de Todos os Santos e Todas os Fiéis Defuntos, e todo o mês é dedicado a lembrar (e orar por!) os falecidos. A estação do outono é um ótimo tempo do ano para se pensar na morte. As folhas estão caindo, as plantas morrendo, os dias ficando mais curtos. Mas muitas pessoas não gostam de pensar na morte e morrer.
No entanto, esquecer a inevitabilidade da morte não é bom para nós. Nem é bom também para aqueles que já morreram. Se não nos lembrarmos da morte, então não nos lembraremos de orar pelos mortos. E os defuntos precisam desesperadamente de nossas orações, especialmente as Pobres Almas do Purgatório.
O Catecismo da Igreja Católica (# 1030ff) descreve-o desta forma: “Os que morrem na graça e na amizade de Deus, mas não de todo purificados, embora seguros da sua salvação eterna, sofrem depois da morte uma purificação, a fim de obterem a santidade necessária para entrar na alegria do céu ... A Igreja chama Purgatório a esta purificação final dos eleitos, que é absolutamente distinta do castigo dos condenados.”
Ajudamos as pobres almas do Purgatório com nossa oração e sacrifício. Primeiro, podemos oferecer a Santa Missa por eles. A Igreja afirma que a Eucaristia é a “Fonte e o Cume” da nossa Fé – a forma mais elevada de oração. Durante a Missa o sacrifício de Jesus Cristo no Calvário é “reapresentado,” o que significa que é como se estivéssemos presentes ali mesmo aos pés da Cruz com Nossa Senhora e São João.
Podemos apresentar as nossas próprias petições ao Senhor no momento de Seu maior ato de amor. Além de rezar na missa e oferecer a comunhão, também pode ter Missas rezadas pelas almas. Também podemos orar pelos falecidos por meio de nossa oração pessoal, especialmente antes das refeições ou durante o rosário. “Dai-lhes, Senhor, o eterno descanso, entre os esplendores da luz perpétua. Que as suas almas descansem em paz.” Ámen!

OUR DIOCESE & COMMUNITY
We begin each November with the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, and the entire month is dedicated to remembering (and praying for!) the dead. The season of autumn is great time of the year to think about death. The leaves are falling, the plants are dying, the days grow shorter. But many people do not like to think about death and dying.
Yet, forgetting the inevitability of death is not good for us. Nor is it good for those who have already died. If we do not remember death, then we won’t remember to pray for the dead. And the dead desperately need our prayers, especially the Poor Souls of Purgatory.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1030ff) describes it in this way:
“All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they un- dergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven…The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purifi- cation of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned.”
We help the poor souls in Purgatory by our prayer and sacrifice. First, we can offer Holy Mass for them. The Church affirms that the Eucharist is the “Source and Summit” of our Faith – the highest form of prayer.
During the Mass the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary is “re- presented,” which means it is as if we are present right there at the foot of the Cross with Our Lady and St. John. We can bring our own peti- tions to Lord at the very moment of His greatest act of love. In addition to praying at Mass and offering up one’s communion, you can also have Masses said for the Poor Souls. We can also pray for the deceased through our personal prayer, especially before meals or during the ro- sary. “Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.” AMEN!
