After washing, a total of 1 5 male/female pairs were separated
and tr ansfe r r e d o nto ano the r plate , c o ntaining Waymo uth
medium ( GIBCO) plus antibiotic and amphotericin and incubated
at 3 7 ºC and 5 % CO
2. The medium was c hanged at 1 -day intervals.
Eggs were examined under a stereomic rosc ope and c ounted,
every 2 4 hours, for 7 2 hours. Most of the eggs were rec overed in
the first 2 4 hours, with a mean 3 2 1 eggs/female/1 0 mL. After 4 8
hours, the number of eggs dec reased dramatic ally, to 2 4 eggs/
female/1 0 mL. After 7 2 hours, only a few dark and deformed
eggs were rec overed ( Table 1 ) .

Chemic ally defined Waymouth medium, is reportedly the best
c ulture medium for the development of L3 into young adult stage,
with a 6 0 % suc c ess rate
1 0 1 1 1 2. Otherwise, when mature female
worms removed from the definitive host are kept in the same
c ulture medium, a very intense and extensive egg elimination
takes plac e, suggestive of a stress response.
