They w ere less abund ant in the p o rch o f an em p ty ho u se (1.3% ) and insid e o f ano ther inhabited ho use (0.3% ). The p ercentag e o f the fem ales (74.1% ) w as clearly sup erio r to that o f m ales (25.8% ). The p hlebo to m ines w ere

and at 6 p .m . and 9 p .m . (3.7% ). They are m o re frequent fro m D ecem b er to May (84.5% ) w hen tem p eratures w ere hig her and rainfalls m o re abund ant. The catches d o ne in February, March and A pril acco unted 63.4% o f a ll th e ta k e n p h le b o to m in e s . The results sho w ed that an av erag e o f just 150 (6,311/ 42) p hlebo to m ines w ere co llected p er ho ur at this tim e in c o n trast w ith an av erag e o f 3,976 (35,783/ 9) in the p rev io us co llect. The research abo ut p hlebo to m ine fauna, the behav io r o f the m o st freq uent sp ecies and their co ntro l need to co ntinue. In ad ittio n, it is im p o rtant to
stud y the w ild reserv o irs o f Leishm ania Ross,
1903 and to ev aluate the ro le o f d o m estic animals in the ep id em io lo g y o f tegum entary leishm aniasis in the state o f Paraná.
