It is with immense satisfaction that we present “Audiology - Communication Research (ACR)”, a new journal in our field. Actually this is the former Revista da Sociedade Brasileira

de Fonoaudiologia (RSBF) which now has a new name and is now maintain by the Academia

Brasileira de Audiologia (ABA)

The ABA, namely the ABA Committee of Education and Research and the current bo-ard, felt quite dismayed at the news of the end of RSBF. Although we understood the reasons behind the attitude of the Sociedade Brasileira de Fonoaudiologia (SBFa), this understanding did not relieve our concerns - concerns about the end of a journal of such importance to Speech and hearing science and also about the harm that decreasing the number of journals could bring to the dissemination of our scientific production, and to the proper progress of Graduate Programs, which depend upon good journals to give vent to their theses and dissertations.

Thus, ABA consulted with our legal advisory in order to verify the statutory and legal feasibility of the transferring process of the journal as well as of the maintenance of its indexing. As there was no legal impediment, the ABA associates were also consulted, and with positive answers to all questions, we now have the pleasure to present the first issue of this periodical.

We emphasize that it is our intention to continue publishing the same annual number of articles that has always been published, and that the first issue is being edited with a smaller number of articles because, although both institutions – SBFa and ABA – were in full agree-ment with the journal transference, processes like this we are living now entail bureaucratic issues that may last longer than we intended.

It’s important to clarify that, although the journal name has changed and the ISSN will also change (as soon as the first issue is edited), the journal will remain indexed by the same databases. Our intent is not only maintaining the current indexing, but also elevates it, first by indexing the journal in MEDLINE and later in ISI – Web of Science.
