Dear Cathedral and St. Mary Mission Family,

We celebrate the Fi,h Sunday of Lent, just two weeks before Easter! I hope you have found the Lord drawing you closer through these days and have been strengthened to follow Him…

This Tuesday, March 23rd we will host the Chrism Mass at

3:00 p.m. during which Bishop John will bless and consecrate the Holy Oils for the Diocese. These Oils are used in the Sacraments of Bap;sm, Confirma;on, Anoin;ng of the Sick, and Holy Orders. Representa;ves from parishes across the Diocese will be able to pick up their Holy Oils in the Gathering Area a,er the Mass.

This week also there are three Penance Services: Monday, Mar. 22 ʹ St. Christopher Parish ʹ 7 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 23 ʹ St. Peter Cathedral ʹ 7 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 24 ʹ St. Louis the King ʹ 7 p.m.

I encourage you to come and receive the Lord’s mercy in prepara;on for Easter!

On Palm Sunday next weekend, you will be given a palm when you come to Mass, but we will not have the procession from the Gathering Area into the Cathedral. Mass will begin with you all in the pews this ;me…

No;ce in the bulle;n the schedule for Liturgies during Holy Week and please do plan to come as you are able. We’ll also have Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of Hours on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. God bless you and yours!

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Msgr. Michael J. Steber

Jesus answered them,“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you,

unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me,and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor who-ever serves me. “I am troubled now. Yet what should I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But it was for this purpose that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven,“I have glorified it and will glorify it again.” The crowd there heard it and said it was thunder;but others said, “An angel has spo-ken to him.” Jesus answered and said, “This voice did not come for my sake but for yours. Now is the .me of judg-ment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. And when I am li/ed up from the earth,I will draw everyone to myself.” He said this indica.ng the kind of death he would die.

This beau;ful liEle book has been designed so that every parish can pray together each month the 1st Saturday of Repara;on to the

Immaculate Heart of Mary for the blasphemies commiEed against her.

This book will help us pray together in our churches, in our homes or as individuals the prayers and pe;;ons to our Lord and our Lady that she urgently requested at the Fa;ma Appari;ons in 1917.

At Fa;ma, Mary said, “If my requests are not heeded, Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, provoking wars and persecu;ons of the church… If my requests are fulfilled, Russia will be converted and there will be Peace.” (5/17/1917)

Therefore, please answer yes to our Lady and join us at St. Peter Cathedral the first Saturday of each month for Mass at 10 a.m. (beginning May 1) and 1st Saturday Devo;ons a,erward.

“LIFE NOTES” from Monsignor Michael

“I Can Hear Music” is a delightful book to teach children the unfolding beauty of unborn life

It is so encouraging when people use their artistic tal-ents to promote the sanctity of human life. They lift us up with their artistry, enabling us to view the life issues in a new and exciting way.

Therefore, I was thrilled when an electronic version of a new children’s book celebrating life arrived in my email inbox. The book is entitled, “I Can Hear Music” and features a cover with a preborn baby listening to an entertaining melody as the little one rests comforta-bly in the mother’s womb.

Gifted author Brendan Lyons and enterprising illustra-tor Missy Johnson have come up with a winning strat-egy for teaching children the basics of development of an unborn baby.

The rhyming text is catchy and clever and makes the creators’ points well:

“Music is everywhere. It helps us to thrive.

It’s one of the best partsof being alive. “Safe in your womb,I can hear music, too. And the very first songsI hear come from you.” The book showcases the preborn child’s humanity and shows how the baby can interact with the environment that surrounds him or her. The message is clear: If a preborn baby can hear music, the child

must be very much alive and worthy of protection. Preschoolers will be a captive audience for this book, which treats the preborn child with an abundance of dignity and respect.

“There is an everyday heroism, made up of gestures of sharing, big or small, which build up an authen;c culture of life… Part of this daily heroism is also the silent but effec;ve and eloquent witness of all those ‘brave mothers who devote themselves to their own family without re-serve, who suffer in giving birth to their children and who are ready to make any effort, to face any sacrifice, in order to pass on to them the best of themselves’… We thank you, heroic mothers, for your invincible love! We thank you for your intrepid trust in God and in his love. We thank you for the sacrifice of your life” (The Gospel of Life 86).
