Diffusion Coefficients in Liquids
Diffusion Coefficients in Liquids
T is the temperature, in K;
Example: Oxygen diffusion in water. Estimate the diffusion at 25 °C for oxygen dissolved in water using the Stokes–Einstein equation and the Wilke–Chang correlation.
Diffusion Coefficients in Liquids
: non-spherical molecules
Example: Estimating molecular size from diffusion
Fibrinogen has a diffusion coefficient of about 2.0 x 10-7 cm2/sec at 37 °C. It is
believed to be rod-shaped (prolate elipsoid), about thirty times longer than it is wide. How large is the molecule?
PROBLEMAS

1) Air at 25ºC flows at 10 m/s in a tube with 5 cm diameter and with smooth wet walls. Compute the concentration profile of water in the air at 0.5 m from inlet.
Data: Pvap = 3170 Pa, rho = 1.2 kg/m2, niu = 1.8e-5 Pa.s, DAB = 2.82e-5 m2/s f = 0.0791Re^(1/4), 3000 < Re < 1e5, Sh = 0.023 Re^0.8 Sc^0.33 Re > 5000
