No final desta unidade curricular, os alunos deverão saber em que consiste o método científico no estudo dos fenómenos e factos políticos. Deverão, igualmente, saber em que consiste e para que serve o desenho de investigação na construção de um projeto de dissertação de mestrado, através do conhecimento dos seus principais objetivos e etapas constitutivas, articulando-os entre si. Ou seja, deverão saber qual o modelo ou estratégia de investigação a seguir (dedutivo,
hipotético-dedutivo ou indutivo) e quais as principais implicações desse modelo na construção do desenho de investigação. De acordo com os modelos ou estratégias de investigação seguidas, os alunos deverão saber como proceder não só à apresentação do enquadramento teórico do seu projeto de dissertação de mestrado, como também proceder à escolha das respetivas opções metodológicas (métodos quantitativos, métodos qualitativos e métodos mistos), bem como à escolha das respetivas técnicas de recolha e análise de dados.
Learning outcomes of the curricular
unit At the end of this curricular unit, the students should know what is the scientific method in the studyof political phenomena. They should also know what is the purpose of the research design in the
construction of their master's thesis project, through the knowledge of its main objectives and constitutive stages. That is, they should know what research model to follow (deductive, hypothetical-deductive or inductive) and what are the main implications of this model in the construction of research design. According to the research models followed, students should know how to proceed not only to the presentation of the theoretical framework of their master's
dissertation project, but also to choose the respective methodological options (quantitative, qualitative or mixed methods), as well as the choice of techniques for data collection and analysis. Conteúdos Programáticos

Metodologia de Ensino e
Avaliação A metodologia de ensino compreende a componente expositiva (exposição de conteúdos), exercícios individuais e discussão em aula.
A avaliação realizar-se-á de acordo com a realização de 2 exercícios individuais. O primeiro exercício a desenvolver contará 25% da avaliação e o segundo 75%, respectivamente. Os trabalhos a serem propostos tenderão a privilegiar as etapas e os mecanismos utilizados na elaboração do pré-projecto de dissertação de mestrado.
Teaching and Assesment
Methodologies The teaching methodologies to this Curricular Unit include an expository component, individual exercises
and discussion at class context. The evaluation of the Curricular Unit will be carried out through two individual exercises. The first exercise will count 25% and the second 75%, respectively. The individual exercises will focus on the research stages and tools in order to develop the research proposal.
