Thisistheeditorialofthelastissueof2016,whichwasavery specialyearthatwillsurelyberememberedbyhistory.
ItwastheyearinwhichtheBrazilianpeopleoverthrewa governmentwithoutarevolution,withoutshootings,without strikes,onlythroughacleardemonstrationoftheirwill.
Ontheonehand,thesystemwasstrengthened,withanew levelofrespectforasocietythatimposeditswill,withinthe limitsofthelaw,bydeposingagangofcriminalswhocalled themselvesapoliticalparty.
Ontheotherhand,therewasagreatdisappointmentfor thosewho believed theyhadsolvedthe problemsofsocial inequalityandeconomicdisparitythatarepresentinour soci-ety.
Iamsurethedisappointmentisgreaterthanthefeelingof justicethatencouragesmanypeoplethatwitnessedthefall ofthegreatesttheftandcorruptionschemeinthehistoryof Brazil.
Thefeelingoflossisgreaterand morepainful thanthe feelingofvictory.
Thosewhobelievedthatwewouldhaveagreatcountry– witheconomicgrowthattheinternationallevel, worldwide recognition,andthepossibilityofoilautonomy–haveseen theirdreamerodedduetothelargestconfounderinanystep ofhistory,humans.
Itallwould havebeen possibleand would have contin-ued,wereitnotforthegreedforfinancialgainaboveallelse, thelongingforeternalpower,andthecontemptforanylegal standard.
Theyfelldue toalegalloophole thatstarted the entire processofimpeachment,whichinturnmadeitpossibleto overthrowthescheme.Indeed,assomehavestated,thissmall loopholethat was foundby lawyers, whichmade the pro-cesslegal,isdisproportionatetotheimmenseevilthatwas generatedbythescheme.
Historypresentssomesimilarexamples,andperhapsthe closestwas thatofAlCapone, the biggestgangsterin his-tory,famousforhisdonationstocharitablecampaigns,who
wasarrestedin1931duetoanincometaxreturnerror,atiny mistakeinhisdishonestandmurderouslife.
I believe that the lackof aphilosophy, ofdefined prin-ciples, and oftheoretical supportare responsible forthese occurrences,episodiceventsinhistorythatareoftenlinkedto individualswhowereunpreparedforthedegreeofleadership theyexercised.
Thecontemptforinstitutionsisthehallmarkofallthese disasters.Today,stillinthethroesofthecrisisthatoccurred inthisgroupofpoliticians,westillseeanattempttodenythe legalprocess.
Thearroganceandthelackofrespectforthestandardrules andforconstitutedauthorityistheultimatedestinationofall thosewhoreachhighofficewithoutproperpreparation.
Thepassivityandopportunismofthosearoundthese fig-ures greatlyfavortheir rise,enablingand stimulatingtheir growth.
Fortunately, the adjustment mechanism governing the balance of nature does not allow for the progression of thesepeople,buttheeviltheycausemayinsomecasesbe irreparable.
These factsarenotexclusive ofpolitics,but ratherthey occurinseveralareas.Inouractivity,itisnotunusualtohave asinglepersoninchargeofservices,directingacademic pro-grams,managingsocietiesand regionaloffices, surrounded byinefficientandopportunisticpeople.Throughoutthe his-toryofBrazilianorthopedics,therewereseveralexamplesof authoritarianismandarrogancethatbroughtseriousdamage topeopleandinstitutions,whodonotdeservetobe remem-bered.Theseindividualshavedisappearedintooblivion.
Regarding RBO, 2016 was a great year, as indexing has placedusintheinternationalscenario,andwehavealso con-tinuedtogrowatthenationallevel.Wearestartingamajor processofrenewingourboardofreviewers,whowill modern-izeoureditorialprofile.
