Theroleofeducationinthecoloproctologisttraininghastwo overlappingstages,atheoreticalandapracticalone.Practical trainingrequiresamoreorlessprolongedperiodofactivities intheoperatingroomandinspecializedclinicswithcertain equipmentsuchascolonoscopes,anorectalultrasounds,etc. Thismanualandinstrumentalstageisbasedontheoretical learninganditsmaintenance,whichwillbepermanentdue tochangesindiagnoses,treatmentsandknowledgeofnew aspectsofdiseases.

The way to keep informed and acquire this infor-mation takes different paths. Attendance at conferences, participationinroundtables,congresses, coursesetcallow forinformationobtainment and revalidation.However,the changesonoutdatedknowledge,theincorporationof inno-vations,andpermanenceofalltheinformationareachieved throughthe writings inthetraditional formofprinting on paper,orthroughtheincreasinglybroaddigitalprinting.

TheLatinAmericanAssociationofColoproctology,which isalmostasexagenarian,hasapermanentyouthfulvervethat leadsittoprovideitsmembersinparticular,andthemedical communityingeneral,detailedinformationontheprogress andchangesthatoccurinourspecialty.

Currentlyand after havingpassedthrough the stage of printing on paper with its Journal, Coloproctología Lati-noamericana,theAssociationisfortunatetobeabletojoin the digitalimpression ofa prestigiousjournal such asthe

Journal ofColoproctology.Theacceptanceofthis participa-tion from2016onpleases usand,atthesametime,brings usthe hugeresponsibilityofkeepingonproducing articles andvarioushigh-qualitypapersthatmeettheeditorial expec-tations ofthe Journal ofColoproctology. Weknow that we willsucceedbecausethesourcescomefromallLatin Ameri-cancountries.Meanwhile,thisdiversitywillmakethequality standardsstricter.TheadvantageisthatLatinAmericanshave strengthandpower,andpossibleweaknesseswillbe immedi-atelycorrectedandovercome.
