Studies were made on the biochemical behavior of 100 strains of
P . p e s tisisolated in Northeastern Brazü w ith regarã to proãuction of nitrous acid,
reduction of nitrates to nitrltes, anã aciáification of glycerol. Results showed
th a t 98 strains can be classified as “orientalis variety”, while th e remaining
two could not be includeã in any of the existing “varieties”.
