The Journal of Applied Oral Science is pleased t o announce t hat it w ill operat e only under a cont inuous publicat ion online m odalit y in 2018. This m odel w ill result in annual volum es, w it hout issue num bers, and t he papers w ill be published as accept ed and designed for publicat ion. How ever, t he num ber of m anuscript s published

The volum es w ill be divided int o t he follow ing sessions: edit orials ( w hen necessary) , original m anuscript s and review m anuscript s, t he lat t er being published only upon edit or's invit at ion. Case report s ( including case series and clinical prot ocols) w ill no longer be accept ed.

The cont inuous publicat ion syst em delivers cont ent t o our readers m uch m ore quickly t han t he old issue- based m odel, i.e., t he paper publicat ion w ill occur in individualized way. This m eans t hat m anuscript s w ill no longer have t o wait for t he next issue – once t hey are ready t o publish, t hey im m ediat ely go online.

The edit orial board and t echnical t eam of t he JAOS analyzed t he crit eria adopt ed by ot her j ournals as w ell as t he recom m endat ion of SciELO, which point ed out t he following operat ional advant ages t o assum e t his publicat ion syst em :

I n addit ion t o t he cont inuous publicat ion of m anuscript s, JAOS is also review ing som e point s in t he publicat ion st andards t o m eet t he crit eria already est ablished by SciELO, and also t o reduce bureaucracy and speed up t he publishing process. The new guidelines w ill sooner be announced on t he j ournal's w ebsit e.
