Acutepoisoning,asthmacrises,acutemanifestationsof allergy, sudden neurologicalalterations, immediate treat-mentofrespiratoryfailure,andotheracutemanifestations havealwaysbeenpresentinthedailyroutineofpediatrics practice.

Although pediatric emergency services are always in greatdemand,pediatric emergencywasonly approvedas a recognized Pediatric Area of Practice (Resolution CFM 2149/2016) in 2015, with the enthusiastic supportof the BrazilianSocietyofPediatrics(SociedadeBrasileirade Pedi-atria[SBP]).1,2Thus,arequestfrompediatricianswhohave

worked hard in pediatric emergency for years, without properrecognition,hasbeenmet.

To contemplate this areaof practice that is so impor-tantinpediatricactivity,theJornaldePediatriahaschosen pediatricemergencytopicsforits2017supplement.

Countlessarethetitlesthatcouldcomprisethis supple-ment.Withoutdetractingfromtheothers,wewereforced, duetolimitedspace,tochooseasmallgroupofemergency manifestationsthatconstitutethissupplement.
