The Millennium Dev elopm ent Goals set t ar get s for t he cont r ol of neglect ed diseases. New st r at egies
have been developed t o achieve t hem . Brazilian nursing follows t he guidelines of t he Global Plan t o STOP TB in
r esear ch an d car e, in w h ich Hu m an Resou r ces em er ge as on e of t h e m ain ch allen ges t o ex pan d t h e DOTS
( Dir ect ly Obser v ed Tr eat m en t Sh or t - Cou r se) st r at egy.
Scient ific nursing product ion in TB has expanded it s scope of analysis in t he last decade ( 1998- 2008) ,
incor por at ing new act or s and innov at ions in t he healt h car e pr ocess, such as DOTS. The t heor et ical r efer ence
fram ew or k is based on v ulnerabilit y, hum anizat ion and adher ence/ abandonm ent concept s( 1- 2). I nnov at ions in
t h e m an agem en t of t h e TB h ealt h car e pr ocess( 3 ) ar e also addr essed, in ser t ed in t h e pr im ar y h ealt h car e
sy st em( 4 ).

healt h pract ices in different scenarios, perm it t ing advances in researchers’ qualificat ion and knowledge product ion
t hat cont ribut es t o TB care in Brazil.
