ProfessorMichelAbuJamrawasbornonAugust13,1916. Dur-ingthe10thRecyclingCourseofHematologyandTransfusion MedicineofHospitalIsraelitaAlbertEinsteinheldin conjunc-tionwiththeMDAndersonCancerCenter,wecouldnotfailto paytributetothe100yearsthatwouldhavebeencompleted bythiseminentprofessor.
Thishomage,suggestedbyDr.JoseMouraMagalhães,was deservedlypresentedduringtheevent.
Boththeauthorsworkedwithandlearnedverymuchfrom ProfessorJamraandtogetherwithothercolleagues,especially Prof.CarlosSergio Chiattone,theycontinued toreceivethe guidance ofProfessorJamra evenafterhisretirement. The professoralwaysmadeapointofseparatingworksof inter-estforeachofus,takingadvantageofhislibraryattheMaria CeciliaVidigalFoundation,whereheheldscientificmeetings onFridaysfollowedbymomentsofrelaxationdrinkingbeer, hisfavoritedrink.
ItwasduringoneofthesemeetingsthatProfessorJamra suggestedthe“SecondHemotherapyMeeting–50yearslater” attheHospitalIsraelitaAlbertEinstein.Thelastmeetingof theeventtookplaceonAugust10,aFriday, inthePandoro restaurantwithbeerandpasties.Unfortunately,onMonday ProfessorJamrasufferedasuddendeath.
ProfessorMichelAbuJamragraduatedfromtheMedicine School,UniversidadedeSãoPauloin1940.Hehadabrilliant universitycareer,PhDin1946andprofessorin1947.
In1972,ProfessorMichelJamrachairedtheXIVCongress oftheInternationalSocietyofHematologyheldinSãoPaulo,

In1977,hebecameProfessorofHematologyandheadofthe HematologyandTransfusionMedicineDisciplineatFMUSP.
AmongthefirstdisciplesofAbuJamraare:DomingosM. deCillo,VictorioMaspes,TherezinhaVerrastro,EuricoCoelho, TherezinhaFerreiraLorenzi,NormaWollner,JoãoTarginode Araújo,OrlandoCésardeOliveiraBarretoandWaltrautLay.
Others trainedwithhimforonetotwoyears who then returnedtotheirhometownstobecomeprominent hema-tologistswere:RomeuIbrahimdeCarvalho,SidneydeMorais Rêgo,DilsonJoséFernandes,MeirioneCostaeSilva,Romildo Lins,Estácio GonzagaFilho,Gilson SaraivadeMello, Linete Vasconcelos Rocha,LuizGonzaga dosSantos,MariaHelena PitombeiraandJaimeAsfora.
In1965,hestartedtheMariaCeciliaSoutoVidigal Founda-tionthenameofhisformerpatientwhodiedofleukemiaat14 yearsold.TheFoundationwasalegacyofGastaoVidigaland family,ownersoftheBancoMercantil,toProfessorAbuJamra inrecognitionofhistreatmentandcareofthisadolescent.He wasthescientificdirectorofthisHematologyInstitute, cre-atedtostudyleukemiaandrelateddiseases,untilhisdeathin June1999.
Hepublishedmorethan250scientificpapersandhelpedto preparemastersanddoctoraltheses.Heactivelyparticipated intheinstallationofPró-SangueinBrazilandthecreationof theSãoPauloBloodCenter.Hereceivedmanymeritedawards inBrazilandabroad.
