Th is past August, th e Oswaldo Cruz Foun dation h osted a sym posium in com m em oration of th e th irtieth an n iversary of th e worldwide eradication of sm allp ox, an u n p receden ted accom plish m en t an n oun ced at th e World Health Assem bly on May 8, 1979.
