We sought, in this investigation, to understand the fam ily dynam ics in the view of parents and children involved in Dom estic Violence against children and adolescents institutionalized in the Center of Assistance to the Victim ized Child and Adolescent (CACAV), in Ribeirão Preto-SP, Brazil. This is a qualitative study with sem i-structured interviews applied t o parent s and children from six fam ilies involved in dom est ic violence. The dat a were analyzed t hrough cont ent analysis. Ecology of hum an developm ent was used as theoretical reference. Dom estic violence was reported, though it is understood as com m on practice for the fam ilies. We identified that the parents’ view favors the denial of the violence perpetrated. The children, on the other hand, point that love ties and affection are m ore significant for their developm ent t han blood relat ions. We believe t hat t he knowledge acquired as how violence is experienced, can cont ribut e wit h intervention strategies capable of breaking the perverse cycle of violent fam ily relationships.
