Nas artes performativas visuais como o VJing, têm nascido algumas extensões criativas que apresentam novas alternativas práticas e ideológicas. No decurso actual, o conceito de Open Jam tem sido apresentado em alguns eventos que envolvem performances visuais. O Open Jam baseia-se no princípio de incitar a todos os interessados a experimentar o acto performativo em imagem. Alguns eventos como o Share (www.share.dj), propiciam a essa actividade.
Outra das actividades que tem ganho interesse na comunidade de VJing, são as da partilha de imagens, i.e., todas as pessoas são convidadas a enviar imagens e vídeos para o evento, no qual o VJ manipulará essas imagéticas potencialmente chegadas de todo o mundo. Estes eventos podem ser bastante atractivos para o público, pelo facto de se sentirem parte integrante da ‘obra’, e além do mais, é um desafio para o VJ que, neste caso, não tem qualquer prévio conhecimento dos vídeos e sequências, logo a primazia é pelo improviso. Com exemplo, em Portugal a iniciativa Encontros da Imagem - Image Rave Party (2009) em Braga, suscitou o envio e partilha de imagens para o evento ao vivo, explorando esta nova vertente expressiva e criativa.
Com o ampliar da presença visual em eventos musicais, e partindo do principio que ambos funcionam num conglutinado produto, resultando numa experiencia total, algumas novas alternativas têm sido apresentadas, nomeadamente a Video Band, ou banda audiovisual. Estas bandas que estão a emergir, funcionam numa ideologia que dá primazia ao vídeo, em que o evento não é pelo som, mas pelo equilíbrio concreto entre visuais e música. Esta filosofia de performance possui uma qualidade na aposta de evidenciar o papel relevante da imagem no mundo do espectáculo. O desenvolvimento das capacidades técnicas de VJing e das ferramentas de DJing têm convergido para uma prática híbrida, na qual o papel performativo do VJ é elevado. O que acontece é que se o VJ pretende melhorar a sua performance, e por tal, para ele o acto de controlar as especificidades do áudio, mostra-se uma complementaridade apelativa nestes ambientes colaborativos da arte audiovisual.
Esta abordagem colaborativa para a produção e performance é impulsionada por um aumento do número de colectivos interdisciplinares, i.e., artistas gráficos, de áudio e vídeo trabalham em conjunto para a criação de uma refinada experiência sinestésica. Um dos exemplos destes novos bandas’ audiovisuais é o colectivo londrino The Light Surgeons, que arquitecta verdadeiros ambientes audiovisuais, instalações e performances completas entre a conglutinar da imagética e da sonoridade.
A energia das performances visuais tem marcado presença na cultura e na arte dos tempos modernos, pensar em novas formas criativas é considerar o papel activo da imagem como expressão. A tecnologia é a grande ponte de acesso entre as ideias e as premências comunicativas, por tal, em VJing existirá sempre esse vínculo, que correctamente elaborado pode presentear audiências com inúmeras forças visuais. Pensar num futuro para Vídeo Jockeying é delineá-lo com ideias criativas, juntamente com tecnologia e uma consciência do potencial intrínseco a todas as correspondentes disciplinas que o invocam como uma forma original de construir experiências artísticas.
