4.4.4. Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes):
Identificar particularidades anatomo-fisiológicas, nutricionais e de maneio dos diferentes tipos de animais exóticos. Conhecer as condições ideais de maneio, ambiente, alimentar e de bem-estar para criação dos animais exóticos em cativeiro.
Apreender técnicas de contenção adequadas a um acto clínico seguro.
Entender os testes e as técnicas auxiliares de diagnóstico utilizado nestas espécies. Conhecer métodos de administração de fármacos nas diferentes espécies animais. Compreender os procedimentos necessários ao apoio técnico no bloco cirúrgico.
4.4.4. Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students):
Identify anatomical and physiological, nutritional and management particularities of different types of exotic animals. Know the ideal conditions of management, environment, food and welfare for breeding exotic animals in captivity. Recognize changes in physiological parameters, behavior and well-being.
Learn handling and restraint techniques appropriate to a safe clinical act. Understand the diagnostic tests and techniques used in these species. Know methods of drug administration in different animal species.
Understand the procedures required for technical support in the operating room. 4.4.5. Conteúdos programáticos:
Para cada grupo/espécie de animais exóticos (pequenos mamíferos, aves, répteis e anfíbios) serão abordados os seguintes conteúdos programáticos:
- Particularidades anatómicas e fisiológicas dos sistemas músculo-esquelético, cutâneo, respiratório, digestivo, urinário, reprodutivo e hematológico.
- Alojamento, maneio geral, alimentação. - Parâmetros biológicos e fisiológicos normais. - Principais patologias médicas.
- Profilaxia médica e sanitária.
Enfermagem na consulta e internamento: - Métodos de contenção
- Reconhecimento de sinais/sintomas de doença
- Meios auxiliares de diagnóstico: colheitas de sangue, zaragatoas, biópsias, raios X, ecografias.
- Técnicas terapêuticas: administração de fármacos e de fluídos, suporte nutricional, entubação esofágica - Condições e cuidados no internamento.
- Atuação em situações de urgência Enfermagem no bloco operatório: - Principais patologias cirúrgicas. - Preparação do paciente para cirurgia. - Entubação traqueal.
- Monitorização anestésica. 4.4.5. Syllabus:
For each group/species of exotic animals most commonly seen as companion animals (small mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians) the following syllabus will be covered:
- Anatomical and physiological particularities of the musculoskeletal, skin, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive and haematological systems.
- Housing, general management, diet.
- Normal biological and physiological parameters. - Major medical diseases.
- Medical and sanitary prophylaxis.
Nursing in consultation and hospitalization: - Handling and restraints methods
- Recognition of signs/symptoms of disease
- Diagnostic aids: Blood samples, swabs, biopsies, X-rays, ultrasounds.
-Therapeutic techniques: drug and fluid administration, nutritional support, esophageal intubation - Conditions and care in hospitalization.
- Emergency cases Operating room nursing: - Main surgical conditions.
- Preparation of the patient for surgery. - Traqueal intubation.
- Monitoring of anesthesia.
4.4.6. Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: Esta unidade curricular tem como principal objetivo a aquisição de competências por parte do estudante, na prestação de cuidados de enfermagem veterinária a animais exóticos. Os conteúdos programáticos ao abordarem estas
temáticas estão alinhados com os objetivos de aprendizagem, permitindo ao estudante, o desenvolvimento de
competências técnicas que lhe permitam auxiliar nos atos médico-cirúrgicos. Além disso, permitirão dotar o estudante de conhecimentos que lhe permitam ajudar os detentores destes animais na criação de condições ideais em cativeiro, de forma a minorar os problemas de saúde destas espécies exóticas.
4.4.6. Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:
The main objective of this curricular unit is the acquisition of skills by the student in providing veterinary nursing care to exotic animals. The syllabus by addressing these subjects is aligned with the learning outcomes, since they will allow the student to develop the technical skills needed to assist in the medical acts. In addition, they will provide the
student with the knowledge to help the keepers of these animals to create ideal conditions in captivity, in order to reduce the health problems of these exotic species.
4.4.7. Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída):
Nas aulas teórico-práticas, para além da exposição teórica dos temas e da utilização de meios audiovisuais, serão realizados estudos de casos práticos e trabalhos de pesquisa bibliográfica orientada sobre alguns temas de interesse com apresentação oral.
A aprovação na disciplina requer que o aluno tenha uma classificação mínima superior ou igual a 9,5 valores, obtida pela ponderação dos seguintes instrumentos de avaliação:
Realização de 2 testes escritos (40%+40%) relativos às matérias teóricas e à interpretação e resolução de estudos-de- caso; apresentação oral de um trabalho, após pesquisa bibliográfica sobre um tema de interesse (20%).
4.4.7. Teaching methodologies (including students' assessment):
In the theoretical-practical classes, besides the theoretical exposition of the themes and the use of videos, practical case studies and bibliographical research will be conducted on some topics of interest, with oral presentation. Approval in the curricular unit requires the student to have a minimum grade greater than or equal to 9.5, obtained by weighting the following assessment instruments:
Two written tests (40% + 40%) related to the theoretical subjects and the interpretation and resolution of the case studies; oral presentation of a work, after bibliographical research on a topic of interest (20%).
4.4.8. Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: As aulas teórico-práticas permitirão que após exposição teórica dos vários conteúdos relativos à prestação de cuidados de enfermagem veterinária a animais exóticos, sejam observados vídeos e casos práticos e situações concretas relacionadas com a mesma temática, o que permitirá a consubstanciação dos conhecimentos ministrados. Os estudos de caso e a elaboração e apresentação de trabalhos visam estimular no estudante uma atitude crítica relativamente às condições de cativeiro das espécies exóticas.
4.4.8. Evidence of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the intended learning outcomes: The theoretical-practical classes will allow that after theoretical exposition of the various contents related to the provision of veterinary nursing care to exotic animals, videos and practical cases and concrete situations related to the same theme will be observed, which will enable the corroboration of the knowledge given. Case studies and the elaboration and presentation of works will allow the student to stimulate a critical attitude towards the conditions of captivity of exotic species.
