4.4.4. Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes): Conhecer a anatomia e funções do sistema tegumentar e das estruturas anexas.
Conhecer os equipamentos, instrumentos e materiais necessários à prestação de cuidados de higiene e estética aos animais.
Dominar as técnicas de higiene e de cuidados básicos de estética dos animais companhia e cavalos. 4.4.4. Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students):
Know the anatomy and functions of the integumentary system.
Control the basic grooming techniques used in companion animals and horses. 4.4.5. Conteúdos programáticos:
Sistema tegumentar: estrutura geral, funções; classificação da pelagem e dos pêlos. Tipos de pêlos: tamanho, textura, cores, padrões nos animais de companhia.
Problemas de pele e seu controlo: pulgas e carraças; piolhos; fungos e ácaros.
Mobiliário e instrumentos: mesa de tosquia; tosquiadoras e facas; pentes e escovas; corta-unhas. Maneio dos equipamentos.
Segurança: interpretação do comportamento. Contenção; Açaimes; Sedação.
Escovagem e remoção do manto; Banho; Secagem; Tosquia; limpeza das orelhas; Glândulas anais; Corte de unhas. Complicações.
Produtos: shampoo, abrilhantador, perfume, Produtos de higiene auricular, ocular e oral. Escolha do mais adequado a cada tipo de pelo.
Tosquia de diferentes raças de canídeos e felinos: corte com lâminas de diferentes de tamanhos; recorte com extensores de lâmina; tesoura manual; desbastar do pelo.
Cuidados de higiene e de estética em equinos: escovar, banho, secar, desbastar, cortar, aparar. Preparação do cavalo para competição.

Integumentary system: general structure and functions; coat classification. Pets coat types: size, texture, colours, patterns.
Common skin conditions and control: fleas and ticks; lice; fungal and mite.
Furniture and devices: Grooming tables; clippers and blades; Combs; Brushes; Shears, Scissors; Dryers; Nail clippers. Equipment management.
Safety at work: animal behaviour; Restraint; Muzzles; Sedation.
Brushing and removal of the coat; Bath; Drying; Shearing; Ear cleaning; Anal glands; Nail clippings. Complications. Products: shampoos; conditioners; perfumes; ear, eye and oral hygiene products. Choose of the most suitable product for each type of hair and situation.
Stripping different canine and feline breeds: cutting with different sized blades; cut out with blade extenders; hand stripping; de-matting the fur.
Hygiene and grooming in horses: brushing, bathing, drying, de-matting, cutting, trimming. Horse preparation for competition.
4.4.6. Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: Esta unidade curricular tem como principal objetivo familiarizar o estudante com as técnicas de higiene e de cuidados básicos de estética dos animais companhia e cavalos. Os conteúdos programáticos ao abordarem estas temáticas estão alinhados com os objectivos de aprendizagem, dotando o estudante de conhecimentos que lhe permita conhecer manipular os instrumentos e produtos em segurança quer para o utilizador quer para o animal e identificar os cuidados de estética a prestar em função das diferentes espécies animais e finalidades.
4.4.6. Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:
This curricular unit aims to familiarize the student with the basic techniques of grooming used in pets and horses. The syllabus by addressing these subjects are aligned with the learning outcomes, providing the student with knowledge to choose and handle the materials and products safely for both the user and the animal and identify the grooming care to be provided to different animal species and purposes.
4.4.7. Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída):
As aulas teórico-práticas são de avaliação contínua. Após exposição teórica dos temas serão utilizados vídeos, realizados estudo de casos práticos e simulações com discussão das opções dos produtos e técnicas mais adequadas às situações. Serão realizadas técnicas de cuidados estéticos em animais. Será ainda apresentado oralmente um trabalho de grupo.
A aprovação na disciplina requer que o aluno tenha uma classificação mínima superior ou igual a 9,5 valores, obtida pela ponderação dos seguintes instrumentos de avaliação:
Realização de 2 testes escritos (40%+40%) relativos às matérias teóricas e à interpretação e resolução de estudos-de- caso; apresentação oral de um trabalho (20%).
4.4.7. Teaching methodologies (including students' assessment):
Theoretical-practical classes are of continuous assessment. After theoretical exposition of the themes will be used videos, case studies and simulations with discussion of the products and techniques options more appropriate to situations. Grooming care will be performed on animals. A group work will be orally presented.
Approval in the curricular unit requires the student to have a minimum grade greater than or equal to 9.5, obtained by weighting the following assessment instruments:
Two written tests (40% + 40%) related to the theoretical subjects and the interpretation and resolution of case studies; oral presentation of a work (20%).
4.4.8. Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: As aulas teórico-práticas permitirão que, após exposição teórica dos vários conteúdos relativos à prestação de cuidados de higiene e estética em animais, sejam observados, analisados e discutidos vídeos, estudo de casos e situações concretas relacionadas com a mesma temática. Isto permitirá a consolidação dos conhecimentos
ministrados. Os estudos de caso, as simulações e a apresentação de trabalhos visam estimular no estudante capacidade para descriminar a melhor opção de higiene e cuidados de estética a instituir em cada situação. 4.4.8. Evidence of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the intended learning outcomes:
Theoretical-practical classes will allow, after theoretical exposition of the various contents related to grooming care in animals, videos, case studies and real situations related to the same subjects will be observed, analyzed and
discussed. This will allow the restrengthen of the knowledge taught. The case studies, the simulations and the presentation of works aim to stimulate in the student, the capacity to discriminate the best option of grooming care to each situation.
