4.4.4. Objetivos de aprendizagem (conhecimentos, aptidões e competências a desenvolver pelos estudantes): O objetivo de aprendizagem desta Unidade Curricular inclui a aprendizagem de um vasto leque de conhecimentos relacionados com as tarefas que se desenrolam numa sala cirúrgica veterinária, nomeadamente no que se refere à preparação da mesma, dos materiais e equipamentos, do próprio paciente, na assistência ao médico veterinário durante a intervenção cirúrgica e durante a anestesia do paciente e nos cuidados a prestar ao paciente durante o seu completo recobro.
4.4.4. Intended learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences to be developed by the students):
The learning objective of this course includes the learning of a wide range of knowledge related to the tasks carried out in a veterinary surgery room, in particular with regard to the preparation of the same, the materials and equipment, the patient himself, during the surgical intervention and during the anesthesia of the patient and in the care to be provided to the patient during his or her complete recovery.
4.4.5. Conteúdos programáticos:
1. A preparação da sala cirurgica, dos equipamentos e instrumentos necessários; 2. A preparação do paciente para a intervenção cirurgica; 3. A indução e a manutenção da anestesia do paciente; 4. A assisntência ao médico veterinário durante os diferentes tipos de interveções realizadas e nas diferentes espécies animais; 5. O cuidado da sutura cirurgica; 6. A medicação pós-operatória e a fluidoterapia administradas ao paciente após a cirurgia; 7. O conforto do paciente após a cirurgia e durante o recobro; 8. Sinais de desconforto e de risco de vida do paciente no recobro. 4.4.5. Syllabus:
1. The preparation of the surgical room, the necessary equipment and instruments; 2. The preparation of the patient for the surgical intervention; 3. Induction and maintenance of the patient's anesthesia; 4. assistance to the veterinary surgeon during the different types of interventions performed and the different animal species; 5. Care of surgical suture; 6. Postoperative medication and fluid therapy given to the patient after surgery; 7. Patient comfort after surgery and during recovery; 8. Signs of discomfort and life risk of the patient in the recovery.

Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: A demonstração da coerência entre os conteúdos programáticos desta unidade curricular e os respectivos objectivos de aprendizagem é feita pela aquisição por parte do estudante das seguintes competências:
1. Prepara o bloco cirurgico, os equipamentos e os instrumentos para as diferentes intervenções e espécies animais; 2. Executa a preparação do paciente para a intervenção cirurgica;
3. Conhece, executa e auxilia o médico veterinário na indução e manutenção da anestesia do paciente; 4. Assiste o médico veterinário durante a cirurgia, inclusivamente em procedimentos sobre o próprio campo operatório;
5. Conhece e presta os cuidados necessários a cada tipo de sutura cirurgica;
6. Conhece e administra as medicações necessárias a cada paciente no seu pós-operatório, de acordo com indicação do médico veterinário.
7. Conhece as condições de conforto de cada paciente durante o seu recobro;
8. Reconhece os sinais de desconforto e de risco de vida do paciente durante o recobro. 4.4.6. Evidence of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit’s intended learning outcomes:
The demonstration of the coherence between the curricular contents of this curricular unit and the respective learning objectives is made by the acquisition by the student of the following competences:
1. Prepares the surgical block, equipment and instruments for the different interventions and animal species; 2. Perform the preparation of the patient for the surgical intervention;
3. Knows, executes and assists the veterinarian in inducing and maintaining the patient's anesthesia; 4. Assists the veterinarian during surgery, including procedures on the operative field itself;
5. Knows and pays the necessary care to each type of surgical suture;
6. Know and administer the necessary medications to each patient in the postoperative period, according to the veterinarian's indication.
7. Know the comfort conditions of each patient during their recovery;
8. Recognizes the patient's signs of discomfort and life threatening during recovery. 4.4.7. Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída):
Para a concretização dos objectivos da unidade curricular as metodologias de ensino assentam: 1. Na exposição pelo docente de conteúdos relacionados com os aspectos teóricos desta unidade curricular;
2. Na demonstração pelo docente de práticas relacionadas com a unidade curricular; 3. Na execução por parte dos alunos de práticas previamente demonstradas pelos docentes;
4. Na pesquisa bibliográfica orientada sobre alguns temas de interesse. 5. Avaliação escrita
4.4.7. Teaching methodologies (including students' assessment):
In order to achieve the objectives of the curricular unit, the teaching methodologies are based on: 1. In the exposition by the teacher of contents related to the theoretical aspects of this unit curricular; 2. In the demonstration by the teacher of practices related to the curricular unit;
3. In the execution by the students of practices previously demonstrated by the teachers; 4. In bibliographic research oriented on some topics of interest.

4.4.8. Demonstração da coerência das metodologias de ensino com os objetivos de aprendizagem da unidade curricular: A aplicação imediata dos conceitos teóricos em situações de prática, realizada em aulas teóricas e práticas, facilita a sua consolidação, permitindo que o estudante interiorize conceitos e os relacione com as diferentes situações que irão ocorrer num bloco operatório e que depende da sua intervenção direta. Por outro lado, a avaliação contínua estimula no estudante um estudo contínuo dos conteúdos apresentados, o que facilita a aquisição de competências ao longo do semestre. A execução de procedimentos em contexto de aulas práticas, permite ainda o desenvolvimento da capacidade de reagir e tomar decisões na atividade profissional.
4.4.8. Evidence of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the intended learning outcomes: The immediate application of theoretical concepts in practical situations, carried out in theoretical and practical classes, facilitates their consolidation, allowing the student to internalize concepts and relate them to the different situations that will occur in an operating theater and that depend on their direct intervention. On the other hand, the continuous evaluation encourages in the student a continuous study of the contents presented, which facilitates the acquisition of competences throughout the semester. The execution of procedures in the context of practical classes also allows the development of the capacity to react and make decisions in the professional activity.
